The difference in amounts leaves open the door to debate about the quality of life of retirees, since in most cases they depend exclusively on their pension.

The most recent data from Eurostat and the OECD “show that this is a problem that knows no borders: the average pension in the EU was around €16,128 in 2022, which translates to €1,345 per month.”

Concentrating the data solely on the EU, as mentioned, the lowest pension is found in Bulgaria and the highest in Luxembourg, with allowances of €3,611 per year and €31,385 per year, respectively.

However, a broader analysis, including the candidate countries and those of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), shows that “Albania is the country with the lowest retirement pension in Europe, at just €1,648 per year (€137 per month), a huge difference of more than €38,000 compared to Iceland, where it is close to €36,000 per year (€2,997 per month), according to the latest Eurostat data.”

Norway and Denmark, on the other hand, have pensions above 30,000 euros. In Sweden and Finland, the annual payment is 22,436 and 21,085 euros, respectively.

Other countries also considered are Turkey, 2,942 euros per year; Bosnia and Herzegovina, 3,041 euros per year; Serbia, 3,486 euros per year; Montenegro, 3,962 euros per year.

The bill contains 13 articles that establish a contribution by companies to the pension fund, with the aim of improving the income that elderly people receive in Venezuela.

The vice president of the country, Delcy Rodríguez, presented the content of the document before the Assembly, and it was presented by deputy Oswaldo Vera. Rodríguez explained that the project “has a very specific objective, which is the special contribution of private business to increase the pensions of older adults in the face of the criminal blockade of the United States.”

The regulations, which are expected to be approved today, Tuesday during the ordinary meeting of Parliament, establishes a contribution by the business community to recover the pensions of Venezuelans.

The Venezuelan banking context is marked by two segments that increasingly make it clearer what they want. Pensioners and young people, who have benefited from an acceleration and opening in terms of banking and the offer of new payment mechanisms.

Digital transactions have been gaining ground, in the midst of a dollarized market. But this is not a problem for the citizen, since most of the banks already offer the purchase and exchange of currencies, as well as the reception of remittances.

Changes in terms of digitization are not aimed at losing contact with customers, but rather at offering faster, more reliable, safer, and more efficient mechanisms.

With the support of the Superintendency of Institutions of the Banking Sector of Venezuela (Sudeban), the entity that regulates banking activity in the country, banks have made great strides to adapt to the new global financial reality, hand in hand with technology. Now the offer of digital services is broader.

Said services are designed taking as a reference what the client needs in terms of means of payment in daily life, payments for national and international services via the Internet, exchange mechanisms, among others.
