Developers can now join the test program that allows them to include an alternative payment system, in addition to the one offered by Google Play. In this phase, it is available only for applications with internal payments, excluding mobile games and apps for tablets.

The technology company clarifies on its Support page that participants in this program must pay the fees that the Google service. And in the event that the user chooses to make the payment with the alternative service, this rate will be reduced by 4 %.

By including an alternative payment system, when the user goes to make a payment within the application, they will find two options: the system chosen by the developer and Google Play, which will remain as an option to choose and not as the only payment method by default.

This program follows the one that Google launched earlier this year with Spotify, after launching this additional billing system in South Korea in September 2021. The new program is available to developers registered as a company or business, in the countries of the European Economic Area.

The media leaked a document in which the company indicates that this work will be carried out by the “New Monetization Experiences” team and that it will be led by a former head of research for the brand, Pratiti Ray Choudhury.

In addition, at this writing the tech company mainly suggests that it will start working on a series of payment features on WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, without determining what they will be or when it expects to test them.

Meta’s revenue comes mainly from ads, although it already has some paid features, but they are not prioritized in its services.

At the moment, this would be the main source of income, according to the vice president of this area, John Hegeman, in statements provided by this medium, adding that Meta does not plan to offer users the option of removing paid ads.

“I think we see opportunities to create new types of products, features and experiences that people would be willing to pay for and excited to pay for,” he said.

This will likely remove some of the uncertainty that comes with non-fungible token purchases, as well as fraudulent activity.

It should be remembered that in 2021, the world of NFTs left profits of more than 25,000 million dollars in sales. For its part, MasterCard has so far distributed some 2.9 billion cards worldwide.

The representative of the entity spoke during the opening of a workshop on monetary policies organized between the FED and Columbia University.

Williams highlighted the importance of blockchain technology, and the positive changes it has brought to the world in general, and the benefits it brings to central banks and digital currencies issued by these institutions (CBDC).

The head of the FED also stressed that attention had to be paid to stablecoins backed by liquid and safe assets, which could also bring great changes to the system currently used.

“As central bankers, it is critical that we remain focused on carrying out our responsibilities, while keeping pace with the world around us,” said the CEO.

This series of comments made by William, evidence the importance of new technologies in each of the aspects of the US economy, and international. Based on this, the invitation of the organizations is to make these issues known to the general population much further.

As the company pointed out on its blog for developers, its official application store was created “with the highest standards of privacy and security so that users can be sure that their confidential payment data will not be at risk when they make purchases in the application.”

Therefore, it opened the door to alternative billing systems that “comply with equally high security standards” to protect user information and facilitate purchasing processes. It has done so following the steps it took last September in South Korea, which became the first country to require Google Play and Apple’s App Store to allow developers to include external payment systems.

Google also indicated in this statement that, after launching this additional billing system in the Asian country, it is exploring billing at the option of users in “other selected countries.”

There are more and more options that Bancamiga offers its customers to facilitate their transactions, after incorporating Movistar postpaid and Inter payments into its mobile application this week.

Through Bancamiga Suite, customers could now recharge the prepaid Movistar, Digitel prepaid, Simple TV and Puro Pago services, as well as the Currency Card.

In the case of the mobile phone company, customers must enter the contract number and the amount to be paid, while for Inter recharge the data that is requested is the identification number.

With these new facilities, the banking institution empowers Bancamiga Suite and makes transactions and inquiries more direct, easier and faster.

In addition to the mobile application, customers of the banking institution, a leader in technological innovation, can recharge Movistar, Digitel and Inter, Simple TV and the Foreign Currency Card (virtual and physical) through Internet Banking www.bancamiga.com. They can also do it at the Bancamiga points of sale, where together with recharging Digitel, Movilnet, Movistar, Inter and Simple TV, they can stamp the 5y6 and play El Andinito de la Lotería del Táchira.

Federico Gómez Schumacher, general director of the company for Latin America, conformed it.

The interest in the Latin market is a consequence of the amount of remittances that are mobilized in the region using cryptocurrencies as a means of transaction, which is of great interest to the company. “There is quite a significant potential (for payments with cryptocurrencies), because what we have seen is that they facilitate transactions between countries, even within certain countries where perhaps the penetration of financial services has certain restrictions,” stressed the director

Gómez Schumacher admits the company’s users that the client portfolio is currently quite small, just 5 %, but he is optimistic and confident in the expansion it will have in the region.

PayPal conquers the Brazilian market

In recent months, PayPal’s participation in the Latin American market has increased, adding more than one and a half million new customers in Mexico as a result of Covid-19, becoming the main recipient of remittances in the region, accentuating the use of cryptocurrencies for money transfers around the world.

According to the data provided by Bitso, during 2020 “almost 2.5 % of all money transfers to Latin America were made through cryptocurrencies.”

At the moment PayPal is applying strategies to increase its presence in the region and for this it is applying some strategies that allow it to expand in the market. In Brazil, for example, it made several commercial alliances with different financial entities that would allow them “electronic payments with debit cards, and it is offering a digital wallet with banking services such as PIX (a means of instant payments) and ticket payments.”

The statistics are evidenced in the WeRemoto platform, where it is reflected that at the end of 2019 and part of 2020 there was an increase of 72 % in the traffic of its website, showing the growing interest of Latin workers during the pandemic for jobs abroad.

In this conextion, Magdiela Rivas, manager for Latin America at Paxful, underlines a new agreement with WeRemoto, through which “we will be focused on educating independent professionals about a new alternative so that they can receive their payments for what they invoice abroad from a easy way and keeping the value of their income.”

Rivas explains that through Paxful’s financial platform, users residing in countries like Argentina “can charge the equivalent of their payment in dollars in crypto and then sell them at the value of the blue dollar, which is very convenient due to the existing gap with the price of the official dollar.”

In this sense, Ryan Clodfelter, CEO of WeRemoto, believes that digital currencies have taken ground in the market to such a point that, in the future, they will become the most important method of exchange. “That is why through this alliance, the WeRemoto community will be able to obtain the best information to understand and start using crypto for purchases and sales of services from their job opportunities.”

As reported by the president of the company, Pedro Morais, the purpose of the measure is to cover the growing demand for bitcoin and in this way adjust to the needs of its customers using cryptocurrencies as a payment method for the consumption of the electricity system.

Although Luzboa is not one of the largest companies in the country, it is highly relevant due to the majority shareholder coming from the Spanish group Nexus Energía.

Payment methods

According to what was informed by the representative of the company, they are still working on a bitcoin wallet, a means by which residents can make their payments to the electrical system known as “Bit Spot”.

According to Morais, the company plans to instantly convert the amount of bitcoin received into euros to protect its business from unstable prices. “We are aware of the volatility of the currency, but we are prepared to take the risk.”
