One of the most important events in the crypto sector, the Blockchain Africa Conference 2024, will take place in Johannesburg on November 20. More than 350 speakers will meet in one place at an event organized by Bitcoin Events at the CSIR International Convention Center.

Almost 10,000 people from more than 160 countries are expected to attend to learn about the latest in blockchain and cryptocurrencies, innovation, crypto exchanges. Debates and discussion panels will address a rich and interesting agenda.

According to information on the official conference page, the conference will “delve into transformative concepts, market disruptors, key industry trends and emerging technologies that are shaping the market of the future. With a special focus on Africa, we will explore the global trends, opportunities and challenges facing market players looking to leverage blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.”

“The Blockchain Africa conference is an event that captivates and educates a global audience as bitcoin events continues to educate the African community, spreading awareness and fostering networking within the space,” they say on the official site.

Among the topics that the conference will address are “blockchain-based use cases in financial and non-financial industries,” the regulation of digital assets, as well as the “barriers and challenges of blockchain technology.”

The organizers hope to satisfy the audience with up-to-date content on blockchain technology and the opportunities it presents for Africa, its application in different industry sectors, as well as being able to establish business connections and alliances with strategic partners.

The mayor’s office of the town announced through a statement that the metropolis was chosen to hold “the first edition of the event in South America”, which will take place from May 1 to 4, 2023.

The Web Summit is an annual technology conference that was founded in 2009 by Paddy Cosgrave, David Kelly and Daire Hickey and has been held in Lisbon since 2016.

Rio de Janeiro hosts international events

The 2023 Web Summit is expected to receive more than 10,000 participants from around the world, who will be received in a protected space of approximately 87,000 square meters.

Brazil has approximately 21 companies valued in the market at more than 1,000 million dollars, it is also the only Latin American country that is part of the list of the top 10 global markets of “unicorns”.

The cryptocurrency exchange Gemini established a strategic alliance with Bancolombia with the aim of expanding in Latin America. Following the agreements made with the Financial Superintendence of Colombia (SFC), it will allow, as of December 14, the purchase and sale operations of various cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash.

The association will be carried out as part of a one-year pilot program led by Colombia’s financial regulator, where users will be able to negotiate cryptocurrencies directly with Gemini. Bancolombia will facilitate the use of their savings or checking accounts to finalize the process of purchase through their digital channels or transfer the money they have in Gemini to their associated account at the financial institution.

Cristina Arrastía, Vice President of Business at Bancolombia pointed out: “Bancolombia does not intervene in the crypto-assets negotiation process, but will serve as a channel to facilitate it.”

Not all bank clients will be able to participate in the pilot test, as indicated by the financial institution, only current clients selected by criteria such as the level of knowledge regarding cryptocurrencies will participate.

The pilot program will be deployed in four phases, each of which involves the invitation of new clients that will be added to the previous phases, as a strategy to control the number of participants. It is estimated that during the four phases the 5,000 clients stipulated by the SFC will be met.

Facebook Messenger has launched a new option that allows its users to make voice or video calls with end-to-end encryption, a security feature that only allows call participants to access data.

The messaging app has given more privacy controls to users, who already had end-to-end encryption in chat messages since 2016 and are now able to activate the function also in video calls, as announced in a statement by Facebook.

Call encryption is an optional feature that users can enable if they wish. It offers protection to users against hackers, so that calls are encrypted, except for the participants, nobody can know the keys in the process.

Likewise, Facebook Messenger has introduced updated controls for messages that disappear automatically, in which users can now choose more options, so that the content expires between five seconds and 24 hours.

Facebook has also announced other news that will come soon to Messenger. The app will begin testing end-to-end encryption in group chats, including voice and video calls. The new feature will be piloted in the coming weeks. It will be accompanied by controls to avoid unwanted interactions, such as selecting that only friends can send chat requests.

A new feature is the option to protect Instagram direct messages with end-to-end encryption, which works in a similar way to Messenger chats. This novelty will be tested among a limited group of adult users of the social network in some countries.
