The president of the European Central Bank (ECB), Christine Lagarde, spoke again about her retirement from leading the regional institution in 2027, although she did not give details about the date of the end of her term, which is expected to be in October.

Lagarde’s departure is considered anticipated. On Friday, September 18, she indicated that there is really nothing new to announce on the matter. The fact is that next year there will be other influential vacancies to fill.

The terms of Chief Economist Philip Lane and Executive Board member Isabel Schnabel end in 2027, “making it crucial to maintain a proper balance in the ECB’s decision-making bodies,” stated the ECB President.

In her address in Davos, Lagarde said the organization should support  range of expertise at the table of the Executive Board and the Governing Council, and having a diversity of opinions, and emphasized the importance of having different profiles. such as economists with experience in central banks and figures with external backgrounds.
