Contributing to the strengthening of activities dedicated to the environment, tourism and sports, this year the XVIII edition of the Ascenso Festival will be held, whose call to send videos and photographs is open until September 15.

The event will maintain the presentation of its usual categories: land, water, air, environment and social awareness. They will include video projections, awards ceremony, photographic exhibition, sponsor product raffles, talks and conferences. Likewise, the successful Expo Ascenso will return to promote the culture of adventure, travel and tourism in Venezuela.

“Ascenso is one of the film festivals with the longest history in Venezuela and, on this occasion, it will connect with its audience through stories that narrate experiences and adventures lived in nature and the most recent challenges of Venezuelans. From our field we want to contribute to this challenging future that lies ahead, positioning ourselves through experiences in the ideal platform to spread this healthy encounter between man and nature,” said its director, Orlando Corona, who thanked Bancamiga for its support to promote this initiative.

18 years after its first edition, there have been many stories shared from the community of adventurers, athletes and nature lovers, and enjoyed by a wide audience of all ages, in numerous events that have promoted audiovisual culture as a tool to spread experiences and learning in the relationship between man and nature.

This year, tribute will be paid to the Proyecto Cumbre as a pioneer of expeditions to the world’s great mountains, and will feature the participation of Venezuelan Raúl Biocchi, who recently climbed the Everest, once again carrying the national tricolor to the top of the world.

Once again, Bancamiga Banco Universal accompanies in 2021 one of the initiatives that in the audiovisual field makes known and promotes the experiences of lovers of nature, travel and adventure sports: the Ascenso Festival.

Its 17th edition arrives on October 21, 22 and 23 at the BOD Cultural Center, starting at 6.30 p.m., with a renewed vision that adapts to the changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We want to contribute to this challenging future that lies ahead, approaching us through meaningful experiences related to what we like and passionate about. Our interaction and the way we communicate pose new challenges, where the best way to overcome them is by having the ability and willingness to reinvent ourselves to create new scenarios”, said the director of Ascenso, Orlando Corona.

17 years after its first edition, many stories have been shared and enjoyed by a wide audience of all ages. With each Ascent Festival, audiovisual culture has been promoted as a tool to disseminate experiences and learnings in the relationship between man and nature.

In 2021, the event maintains the presentation of its customary categories Earth, Water, Air, Environment and Social Commitment, with more than 20 audiovisual proposals and the participation of 34 photographers.

It is precisely because it is a socially responsible organization committed to the country that Bancamiga promotes projects such as this Festival, which has been linked to the environment, sports and education from its very first day.

A space for training

The Ascenso Festival was presented for the first time in 2003, at the Banff Mountain Film Festival, the most prestigious adventure video festival in the world, and in 2004 the first edition of the Venezuelan chapter. For 18 years he has been an organizer of events that promote adventure sports and experiences lived in nature, while generating spaces for training and education in the audiovisual field. Healthy interaction with nature stimulates skills necessary to build a better society.

Corona said that the event will include two days of video projections and the third will be used to award the prizes to the winners in the different categories both in photography and video, in addition to broadcasting the award-winning audiovisuals.

Starting on October 21, a photographic exhibition will be open for three weeks in the gallery of the BOD Cultural Center, where you can also enjoy a talk dedicated to reading the images exhibited in the exhibition and another on Henry’ Gonzáles most recent book: Avila.

He added that within the framework of the Ascenso Festival, a special tribute will be paid to La Cordada Store, a pioneer in the sale and rental of products for the community of adventurers in Venezuela. “Its presence in the country over 30 years has allowed significant growth in the practice of mountaineering and other associated disciplines.”
