His interaction with the faithful was consolidated thanks to a favorable stance toward the digital environment. A documentary was even produced, broadcast on Disney+ in 2023, showcasing the Pope’s interaction with young people.

In detail, during his term, Francis sought to create a strong digital environment for the Catholic Church. The @Pontifex account, launched by his predecessor Benedict XVI, had already existed on X (Twitter at the time) since 2012. Under Francis, the papal presence on the social network accelerated.

In November 2014, the iOS and Android app, Cick to Pray, was launched, “which allows you to follow the prayer requests the Pope proposes each month and share your intentions and prayers with the rest of the community.”

Another example of the strengthening of the connection between the Church and the faithful was the documentary “Amen. The Pope Responds,” released on April 5, 2023, on Disney+. It was produced by Producciones del Barrio and directed by Jordi Évole and Màrius Sánchez. The documentary showcases an “intimate and unfiltered conversation between Pope Francis and a group of 10 young people between the ages of 20 and 25.”

In March 2016, the Pope’s Instagram profile, @franciscus, was launched, where it reached almost 10 million followers, with feeds in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, Polish, and German.
