In an increasingly digital world, a high percentage of transactions in Switzerland are still paid for with cash. The referendum to decide whether this payment method would be maintained was announced last year.

Thanks to the voters’ support, state entities must now guarantee “the availability of cash in the country, and it is ruled out that it could ever be replaced by virtual money. This guarantee will be enshrined in the Constitution.”

Meanwhile, due to the rise of digital payment platforms and applications, Switzerland, like the rest of Europe, will continue to consider “the possibility of launching a virtual Swiss franc in the future, a cryptocurrency issued by the Swiss National Bank, which, following today’s vote, will have to coexist, if it comes to fruition, with physical coins and banknotes.”

In this regard, it is recommended to establish a payment schedule, perhaps programmed through your bank account, so that services are automatically debited.

On the other hand, if you are up-to-date with your subscription plans, for example, then you can focus on making bank transfers in advance to the family and friends on your Christmas list.

If possible, obtain enough cash for daily expenses or unexpected events, such as gas or a last-minute gift you might have forgotten.

Saving, a word hardly anyone mentions these days, is another option at this time of year. It can be achieved by withdrawing cash in advance or by placing a modest amount of money in a fixed-term deposit, which will surely be very useful in 2026.

According to local media, as the date of application of the Fintech Law in Chile approaches, expectations are increasing in companies linked to the digital payment sector.

In any case, it has been hinted that flexible regulations will be established for companies “that offer financial services that today are not regulated or supervised by the Commission for the Financial Market (CMF)”, such as “collective financing platforms, systems of transaction alternatives, investment advice, credit advice, custody of financial instruments, routing of orders, and intermediation of financial instruments”.

Among the novelties that the Fintech Law will introduce are the adoption of new technologies; modification in the regulations of the banking, securities and insurance sector; the creation of the Open Finance System; innovation in competition and security.

It is important to highlight that in the development of this law, Chile has had the support of international organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Today, once again, it has enhanced the facilities of its technological platform, by allowing its customers to immediately recover the available balance of their credit card or the Línea de Crédito Amiga, when making the payment through Bancamiga online.

When previously the balance of the card was paid, it was necessary to wait for the approval of the credit authorizer, which, being outside the Bancamiga infrastructure, did not occur in real time.

With this development, customers can now cancel their card online without waiting for the next invoice movement and will be able to view their consumption in real time. It is to have the limit of your card instantly, explains Bancamiga Banco Universal.

Yraima Martínez, VP of Means of Payment at Bancamiga, said that with this new facility, the banking institution continues to set standards in the Venezuelan financial system in its permanent search to satisfy the needs of its customers.

To make the payment online, the process is very simple. The client only has to enter the Global Position in Internet Banking and follow the established steps, among which are defining the account to be debited (Savings or Current), the card number and the amount.

In this way, Bancamiga becomes one of the first banks to offer this service in the country and the first to do so with an external credit authorizer

Online payment can be made any day, from the Bancamiga.com website or through the Bancamiga Suite application, online banking option, including weekends and holidays. Accounts with status in legal collection, cancelled and in fraud do not have the advantage.

With this feature, Bancamiga offers innovative and versatile financial solutions that improve the customer experience and bring them closer to its products and services.

With information from Bancamiga

However, some technology platforms like PayPal are taking up the challenge and have developed instruments that allow them to offer the services of carrying out transactions with different digital currencies.

In this global framework, the online payment giant PayPal announced its new service that will allow customers to buy, hold and sell cryptocurrencies directly from its platform. In addition, its clients will have the opportunity, starting in 2022, to use their cryptocurrencies as a source of financing to cancel their network of 26 million businesses around the world,” which could increase their utility.

For the president and CEO of PayPal, Dan Schulman, the transformation of physical money into digital forms is inescapable, which has implicit some advantages in terms of financial inclusion, access, efficiency, speed and resilience of the payment system, as well as the “Ability of governments to disburse funds to citizens quickly.”

Schulman admits that the organization’s experience in digital payments, its global reach, as well as its two-way network and the security processes and controls it possesses allow it to better understand, exchange, and interoperate these new financial instruments.

Paypal provides new financial tools for Latin America

Federico Gómez Schumacher, PayPal’s chief executive for Latin America, highlights the importance of the Latin American market for the organization. “It is no secret to anyone that Latin America still has a way to go in terms of adopting digital financial tools, as well as reducing the high levels of informality that persist in their economies.”

That is why the company wants to work and increase its presence in the region and thus contribute and help reduce poverty. Likewise, the organization will offer educational content that allows users to understand the cryptographic ecosystem, as well as its risks and opportunities related to investing in digital currencies and everything related to blockchain technology.

On the other hand, cryptocurrencies will become another source of financing within PayPal’s digital wallet, adding another improved utility for cryptocurrency holders. Merchants will not get any additional integrations or fees as all transactions will be settled in fiat currency at their current PayPal rates.
