In a survey previously carried out by Dow Jones, different economic analysts expressed their pessimism regarding the work environment, due to the impact that the pandemic is having on the economy. Especially with the development and expansion of the omicron variant of Covid-19, which seemed to enter one of its most important peaks after the Christmas celebrations.

The increase in job vacancies presents an excellent outlook for the local economy of the United States, which since last year has maintained an unemployment rate of around 4 %. However, with the increase in these new places, the projections improve positively.

Job vacancies as an indicator for the FED

One of the variables that worries the US Federal Reserve (FED) is the increase in inflation levels, but the reactivation of the labor market has become an excellent indicator for the institution.

Some analysts consider that it is a very good sign for the FED because as of March the institution plans to begin modifying some measures that it has implemented as a result of the pandemic. The following are some of the most relevant: significantly reduce the capital destined for repurchase of sovereign bonds, in addition to increasing bank interest rates, which have remained close to 0 since 2020, and reducing the economic support that is impacting inflation levels.

Concern in the crypto market

The crypto market could be impacted if the FED executes the aforementioned measures because it would represent less liquidity for the digital currency ecosystem, especially for Bitcoin due to the lack of financial instruments that offer greater exposure to more traditional investors.

Joel Kruger, market strategist at LMAX Digital, noted: “The data suggests that the Fed will have to be more aggressive with rate hikes…this juncture will continue to have a negative impact on cryptocurrencies for the time being.”

Despite the negative expectations that analysts have for the crypto market, the price of cryptocurrencies has increased in recent days, particularly Bitcoin, which exceeds 40 thousand dollars.

This increase is part of the plan established in 2021, when the organization established a monthly increase of 400,000 bpd from last August to September 2022, after evaluating the behavior of the sector. But to date the group has maintained the strategy, which is why as of February 1st, crude oil extractions will be located at 40,894 million mbd.

A representative of the group pointed out: “It has been decided to maintain the current strategy”, after the virtual meeting where the ministers of the different countries that make up the group participated.

OPEC+ continues to recover its production

The conclusions of the meeting of the OPEC + group did not bring surprises for the global oil market. In the group’s final statement, released to the media, they state: “In view of the current fundamentals of the oil market and the consensus on its prospects, the ministers certified the decision to adjust monthly global production upwards by 0.4 million barrels per day (mbd) in the month of February 2022.”

OPEC will supply the market with some 24,808 mbd. This figure does not include pumping from Venezuela, Iran and Libya. While 16,086 mbd will be contributed by the group of the ten allied independent producers, with Saudi Arabia, on behalf of OPEC, and Russia, a non-member, the largest producers and exporters of the group, standing at 10,227 mbd.

In the latest edition of its monthly bulletin, the oil organization confirms its expectations that world oil demand will grow by 5.66 million barrels per day (mb/d) in 2021, up to an annual average of 96.63 mb/d. d.

As for its forecast for 2022, a growth in demand of 4.15 mb/d is expected, up to a total of 100.79 mb/d, which, if finally confirmed, would mean the highest annual oil consumption.

In this sense, although the impact of the omicron variant is expected to be slight and short-lived, OPEC warns that “uncertainties persist” regarding the new variants and the renewed mobility restrictions, in the midst of a recovery otherwise steady global economy, despite current inflation levels, supply chain bottlenecks and ongoing trade issues.

Likewise, OPEC points out, in anticipation of the change in the monetary policy of several of the main central banks, such as the Federal Reserve of the United States or the Bank of England, that the monetary actions of these institutions are not expected to hinder the underlying impulse. of global economic growth, but rather serve to recalibrate economies that would otherwise overheat.

The strong job creation at Christmas, which far exceeded the 505,000 jobs generated in November, suggests that the impact of the omicron variant on the labor market was not noticed at the end of last year, waiting to be known this Friday official unemployment and job creation data.

“The December labor market strengthened as the aftermath of the delta variant faded and the impact of omicron had yet to be seen”, said Nela Richardson, ADP chief economist.

Thus, average job growth in the fourth quarter of 2021 reached 625,000 jobs, exceeding the average of 514,000 for 2021 as a whole, when 6 million new jobs were surpassed.

However, ADP warned that despite the job market recovery, private sector payrolls are still nearly 4 million jobs below pre-pandemic levels.

“We are currently intensively monitoring the new strains, such as omicron, which is causing so much concern in recent days. It generates variations in the spicule protein sequence. We are testing the effectiveness of our vaccine against this new variant and we are exploring the development of a specific vaccine if necessary”, he advanced during his speech before the Commission of investigation related to the management of vaccines and the Vaccination Plan of the Congress of Deputies.

In this regard, the Janssen leader added that they are “working together with the World Health Organization, the academic world and different institutions” to clarify what the impact of omicron could be on already approved vaccines.

Vaccines for the world

In any case, Díaz-Rubio Amate has defended that Janssen “continues to believe in the benefit” of its vaccine, which is provided non-profit for the duration of the pandemic, “to millions of people around the world. We are committed to remaining non-profit for the duration of the pandemic and initially at a single price worldwide,” he stressed.

The leader of Janssen has recognized that it is “complex” to maket the transfer of vaccine technology so that it can be carried out by other centers around the world. “It is complex due to the needs of equipment, raw materials … Technology transfer is a complex project that requires qualified personnel with great experience,” he explained.

Despite this, he has argued that “having access to vaccines that save lives should not depend on where you live or purchasing power.” “We are especially proud of our work to facilitate equitable access.”

He has valued COVAX as “an essential mechanism so that the most disadvantaged nations are not left behind.” In fact, he recalled that Janssen will supply up to 900 million doses of its vaccine to this instrument and to the African Union over the next year.

“By the end of this year, we estimate that 60 percent of our production will have been made available to less wealthy nations and we will continue next year,” he added.
