The governor of the state of Zulia, Omar Prieto, spoke about the possibility of Venezuela having its own “bitcoin city.”

This project would be based on a “healthy and modern trading system with cryptocurrencies” that can be used and exploited to a great extent by the entity’s businesses.

The proposal, in the words of the governor, has already been discussed for some time with “important allies” of Zulia.

The initiative seeks that local businesses can receive digital currencies, including bitcoin, dash and petro, the cryptocurrency promoted by the Venezuelan government, among their forms of payment. According to Prieto, the payment system seeks to solve the problem of shortage of dollars in cash, with the aim of “protecting the consumer.”

Although Prieto did not provide too many details about what the deployment of the “bitcoin city” project will consist of, he explained that the new system will include a rechargeable card with cryptocurrencies. He noted that it is “a new card that we are working on” and that it will allow to pay with digital currencies in different businesses.
