India announced that last April it stopped importing oil to Venezuela due to the expiration of existing agreements and fear of new sanctions from the United States.

From the Indian capital, New Delhi, the purchase of crude oil from Venezuela had resumed as a result of the relief of the sanctions that the US maintains on the Latin American country.

This was indicated at the time by India’s Foreign Affairs spokesman, Randir Jaiswal, clarifying that “Venezuelan oil imports were based on specific agreements,” which have expired.

In December 2023, Indian Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had stated that the country would resume importing Venezuelan oil once sanctions were eased by Washington.
