The regulatory body will publish the exchange rate update tomorrow, Wednesday, October 16, as a reference for all transactions in the country.

Luisa González, the only woman who has presented herself as a candidate for the Ecuadorian presidential elections, is leading the count, positioning herself with 33.21 % of the votes, according to provisional data that corresponds to 80.14% of the count. Behind her is Daniel Noboa with 24 % of the ballots.

In third place is the formation of Fernando Villavicencio, Movimiento Construye, which registers 16.38 % of the votes in the candidacy of Christian Zurita. Close to this position is the candidate Jan Topic, with 14.62 %.

The president of the Ecuadorian National Electoral Council, Diana Atamaint, has indicated in a press conference that these data “mark a trend to ensure” a second round that will take place on October 15.

“I want to congratulate the democratic attitude of the candidates by recognizing the results, which are nothing more and nothing less than the reflection of the popular will expressed at the polls. I reiterate my congratulations to the Ecuadorian people for their civic commitment and for their participation in this day historical democracy that demonstrates the love for the homeland and the deep desire to have a country without violence, with inclusion, more solidarity,” he declared.

For his part, González, from the main opposition party of the government of acting president Guillermo Lasso, has celebrated his pass to the second round and has called for unity to “have hope and dignity” and avoid having “a Lasso 2.0.”

“It is the first time in the history of Ecuador that a woman gets such a high percentage in the first round to be president,” he stressed, while pointing out that all Ecuadorians deserve decent employment or access to health or education. Meanwhile, Noboa has assured that starting this Monday he will work to reach the Presidency: “We have a project and if someone wants to join, with great pleasure.”

Ecuadorians have gone to the polls this Sunday in early elections in which they have chosen the person who will replace Guillermo Lasso, who is not running for re-election, with the uncertainty of violence in the country, which has fully affected the presidential campaign.
