The streaming platform launched its application for Nintendo Switch consoles in November 2021, with the aim of offering users a “more flexible” viewing experience for content on the platform.

In this way, users who use this ‘app’ can register in their accounts and view, follow or interact with any channel directly on the console. Likewise, it also allows you to search to discover new streamers.

However, Twitch has announced that it will stop supporting its app on the Nintendo Switch console starting Monday, November 6 for new users, who will no longer be able to download the app on the Nintendo eShop.

This was detailed by the company in a notification on its help page, in which it also specified that, as for users who already had the ‘app’ downloaded to their console, “they will lose access to the application” January 31 of next year 2024.

In this sense, according to statements by Twitch’s corporate communications director, Gabriella Raila, to The Verge, the company has made the decision to remove the application on Nintendo Switch “recently.” In addition, she also stressed that Nintendo “remains a valued partner” and that they appreciate “all the support that the Switch community has given to Twitch and streamers.”

During the years that the application has been in use, users have posted some complaints about the app’s service through a Twitch forum, detailing that they cannot see the chat in a broadcast, or which does not allow subscription to creators from the console. Likewise, users cannot use the app to stream their own gameplay either.

The Switch, Nintendo’s next-generation console, prepares support for playing video games originally developed for the brand’s previous handheld consoles, GameBoy and GameBoy Advance.

A Twitter user known as trasbandatcoot discovered a series of files circulating on Discord servers and forums such as 4chan, in which two emulators were found.

Emulators are programs that allow players to access certain video games from devices other than those for which they were initially developed. In this way, it is not necessary to acquire a specific “hardware”, but you can play native titles on other platforms.

These emulators have the code names “Hyoko”, for GameBoy, and “Sloop”, for GameBoy Advance, and would have been developed by the Nintendo European Research & Development team, which usually manages emulation software for official products of the Japanese brand.

According to leaks made available to Video Games Chronicle, both emulators were downloaded from a Nintendo Switch console, suggesting that the company could be working to integrate native video games from retro consoles into the cloud of its next-gen console.

Some of the titles that could be included on this platform include those developed by the Japanese company itself, such as The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap and Metroid Fusion, as well as games created by other studios, such as Mega Man Battle Network 2 or Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow.

Nintendo prepares the arrival of the new Switch with OLED screen without further plans for new versions of its hybrid game console, as stated by the company.

Workers from at least eleven video game companies would be working with development kits for a Nintendo Switch with 4k support, according to the Bloomberg media, which indicates that the new hardware would arrive at the end of next year at the earliest, citing sources close to these plans.

The Japanese company for its part issued a brief statement, through the social network Twitter, in which it says that the Bloomberg report “is not true”, and even qualifies it as “false” when it assures that it is providing tools to promote game development for a Nintendo Switch with 4K support.

In the statement he also reaffirms that he has no plans for any new model other than the Nintendo Switch – OLED model, a version presented in July that will go on sale on October 8.

The news story also listed Zynga as one of eleven development companies that had one of the 4k kits. However, after the publication and Nintendo’s statement, Zynga has denied having one of the kits, as the aforementioned medium has collected in an update.

Nintendo reportedly delivered the kits before the July announcement, when it unveiled the OLED screen version. The developers Bloomberg has spoken with have not speculated on Nintendo’s launch plans for the new console, but they hope to release their adapted games in the second half of 2022.

PlayStation 5 (PS5) is the next-generation console that consumes the most energy, with an average of $ 200 during its entire cycle of use, while Nintendo Switch is the least, according to a study by Nerd Wallet.

The research, carried out in the United Kingdom, analyzed the average cost of each console user, taking into account both their price and that of their games as well as other aspects such as their energy consumption, and revealed that PS5 in its version with disk support is the console that users spend the most money on today, an average of more than $ 2,000 per person.

This cost takes into account the price of the console, an additional control, original headphones, nine video games at launch price, the average of PlayStation console users, the PS Plus subscription and also its energy consumption in eight years of use and 890 hours played per year.

The version with disc support and the digital version of PS5 consume the same, according to the study. However, these data represent a reduction compared to the average consumption of its predecessor, the PlayStation 4, which spends approximately $ 250 on electricity, in its useful life of eight years and 819 hours of annual gameplay.

For its part, the hybrid Nintendo Switch console is the one that uses the least energy among the new generation, with 125 dollars during its average life cycle of six years and playing 1,131 hours a year.

Nintendo’s plans do not include a new Switch model soon, when it will be four years since the platform’s arrival worldwide, and two of the Lite version, as indicated by the company in the presentation of financial results.

Nintendo Switch has sold 11.6 million units during the Christmas period, an increase of 7 % over the previous year, despite supply problems due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The President, Shuntaro Furukawa, explained that sales of this hardware remain strong and that Nintendo has enough components to maintain the supply, as reported in Bloomberg.

Furukawa also indicated that the Japanese company has no plans to announce a new Switch model soon, when four years from the launch of the original Switch (March 2017), and two of the Lite version will be completed in 2021 ( September 2019).

In August, Bloomberg reported that Nintendo was working on a new Switch expected to be released this year to compete in the market with the new hardware from Sony and Microsoft.
