Everything points to a change of course and strategy marked by mobility and sustainability, taking into account that the Chinese company BYD, in full expansion, leads the electric vehicle market.

The company was founded in 1995 (Shenzhen, China) and quickly rose in the market, to the point of recently surpassing the American Tesla, run by Elon Musk.

It entered the European market in 2022 and now has 230 sales establishments in 19 countries, in addition to expansion plans.

Apparently, the philosophy of the new sponsor fit into the new orientation of the organizers of Euro 2024, who want a more sustainable tournament. In this sense, the official fleet of the tournament will be made up of electric vehicles by BYD, with the goal of reducing the carbon footprint and contributing to sustainability. BYD, for its part, has announced events that promote electric mobility in the fan zones of the host cities.

Prominence of foreign sponsorship

According to UEFA, there are five commercial partners in the sponsorship of the sporting event most anticipated by fans. The organization indicated that the Adidas brand will deliver the balls and equipment for volunteers and employees. Likewise, the French digital services company Atos will be in charge of the tournament’s computer technology. Coca-Cola accompanies them in the supply of all supplies for the hydration of the fans, the volunteers and the dehydration officials. The German railway company Deutsche Bahn is in charge of Euro-Tickets at special prices.

Boost to the German economy could be 1,000 million euros

The host country of Euro 2024 could add around 1 billion euros to its economy from the profits derived from foreign tourists who travel to enjoy soccer matches.

The forecast of the economic research institute, ifo, indicates that the figure would correspond to 0.1 % of economic production in the second quarter of the year. The sectors with the greatest benefit from the sporting event are hospitality and food retail in Germany.

It is estimated that the commercial relationship between the DFB and Adidas was one of the longest and most recognized in history, since it spans 77 years of commercial alliance. However, apparently the 50 million euros that Adidas paid annually “did not satisfy the most powerful federation in Europe, mired in a financial crisis comparable to the political and economic uncertainty that has gripped Germany since 2022.”

The news of the switch from Adidas to Nike was announced by Bernd Neuendorf, president of the DFB, who indicated: “The federation will partner with Nike on equipment from 2027 to 2034. Nike will equip all DFB national teams and will promote German football in its entirety.”

For his part, Adidas spokesman Oliver Brüggen reported that the German federation’s decision had come as a surprise, amid the recent disclosure of the first annual losses in 30 years.

During the next Euro Cup, which will be held in Germany between June 14 and July 14, the German team will gather at the Adidas headquarters in Herzobenaurach, Bavaria.

In any case, they are eager to start working with Nike. In this regard, Neuendorf advanced: “The future association will allow the DFB to continue carrying out key tasks in the next decade with a view to the comprehensive development of football in Germany. One thing is also clear: until December 2026, we will do everything possible to achieve shared success with our current and long-term partner, Adidas, to whom German football owes a lot for more than seven decades.”

It is a collage created by artist Beeple, who worked on it daily for 13 and a half years.

In a statement, Christie’s explained that the piece “Everydays: the first 5,000 days“, consists of an image in JPG format, and is the first completely digital work of art auctioned off such a large house.

The work has a unique non-fungible token (NFC), a technology based on blockchain integrated to guarantee its authenticity in the digital format and that also allows its sale to be carried out through the cryptocurrency Ether.

Beeple began the work on May 1st, 2007 with a drawing by the artist’s uncle, Jim, and continues with images of all kinds created during his lifetime. One of them, from September 2013, he created it in three minutes before taking his wife to the hospital to give birth, and another created in 2014 and with the text “kill me”, whichhe made after suffering food poisoning.

The mozaico closes on the 5,000th day, January 7 of this year, and incorporates recurring characters from his caricatured work such as Donald Trump. Michael Jackson, Kim Jong-un, Mickey Mouse, Pikachu, Buzz Lightyear, and Mario.
