“The new members have a lower position than the permanent members, but they have the possibility of participating in summits and thematic meetings.”

It is important to note that negotiations to accept new members began in 2023 by the group originally made up of Brazil, Russia, India, South Africa and China.

The report highlights that Angola, Iran and Nigeria were the main drivers of the increase in OPEC production during October. Despite some reductions by other members, such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Libya and Venezuela, the overall increases did not exceed limits set in previous agreements by OPEC and its allies, including Russia.

Iran, exempt from supply cut commitments, continued to increase its production, reaching 3.1 million barrels per day in October. Despite US sanctions on Iran’s oil exports, its output increased by 30% compared to 2021, reaching levels not seen in years.

The report also projects global oil supply, forecasting that production from non-OPEC countries will reach between 67.59 and 68.88 million barrels per day in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

According to the report, the 13 OPEC members produced a total of 28.92 million barrels per day, although these figures may differ from the official figures provided by individual members.

As for Venezuela, it was reported that the country has extracted an average of 700,000 barrels of oil per day, an increase of 4,000 barrels per day compared to the previous month. However, production dropped to 704,000 barrels per day in February, a decrease of 28,000 barrels per day compared to January.

The OPEC report has not changed its outlook on the global oil market in recent months as it remains uncertain due to various factors. Given the high uncertainty, the OPEC+ alliance will continue to closely monitor market developments to ensure sustainable stability.

The announcement was made this Sunday, by the local newspaper Punch, which reported: “The new project aims to raise the level of digital assets in the country until they are recognized as investment capital by the Securities and Exchange Commission.”

Nigeria has taken significant steps towards innovation in blockchain technology and Web3. This new bill, called the “Proposed Securities and Investment Bill, 2007”, could soon be passed by the lower house of Nigeria’s congress.

The press release indicates that the project will also have influence on “supervisory functions by the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with respect to cryptocurrencies.”

Undoubtedly, the objective is to establish clear rules for the regulation and supervision of the proper use of digital currencies as investment capital. Likewise, reduce the risks of crimes such as “money laundering or the financing of practices such as terrorism.”

Koibanx works in the area of tokenization; Zenith Bank will issue the prepaid cards for transactions at Alke; while MetaMap will be responsible for facilitating “the registration, validating the identity and guaranteeing the authentication of the users who use the platform”, according to Cointelegraph in Spanish.

The currency, which will take several years to reach its fullness, intends to “facilitate and accelerate financial transactions in the African country”, according to the institution, and will serve as a complement to the physical currency, collects the Lagos Post.

“The eNaira, therefore, marks a great step forward in the evolution of money, and the CBN is committed to ensuring that the eNaira, like the physical naira, is accessible to all,” added the central bank.

Olabisi Onabanjo University economics professor Sheriffdeen Tella has urged the Central Bank to sensitize Nigerians to the concept.

“People have yet to fully understand what eNaira is about. However, hopefully after the launch, they will be more aware of it,” said the entity.

The study on the best places for the cryptographic industry settlement showed that California obtained a rating of 5.72 points out of 10. Then there is New Jersey with 5.44 points; Texas 5.28 and New York 4.29 points. In addition, the state obtained the best national average 2.54 points higher.

The parameters evaluated in the study were: “Google searches related to cryptocurrencies, the presence of Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrency ATMs, and the number of blockchain-related invoices approved in each state.” California ranked first in the first two variables, which made up for the absence of explicit legislation on digital assets.

When conducting a comparative analysis with the other states on the results, it is observed that New York sanctioned eight bills related to cryptocurrencies, but it ranked 33 when it comes to the presence of ATMs for crypto.

For its part, New Jersey had the highest percentage in the number of ATMs installed per 10,000 square miles and ranked third in the search per 100,000 people, followed by Texas and Florida, which also scored well in the first two variables.

Strengthening of crypto market in the US

Americans, in 2020, “made $ 4.1 billion in realized profits from their cryptocurrency operations.” And bitcoin traded volumes surpassed those in Europe, Nigeria, and China combined. Additionally, this nation is a world leader in the installation and operation of Bitcoin ATMs with 86.4 % of the total installations, according to the figures reported by the cryptographic industry.

The success of digital assets in the US, “despite regulatory uncertainty and an impending infrastructure bill that could affect key segments of the blockchain economy” is due to the fact that they belong to the assets in which it is possible to invest.

While Guatemala has already decided on the name of its future CBDC.

The president of the Central Bank of Honduras, Wilfredo Cerrato, expressed his commitment to “determine the viability of conducting a pilot test issuing its own digital money or a digital currency of the central bank” and urged the highest monetary authority in the region, the Council Central American Monetary, to participate in the initiative.

Meanwhile, the vice president of the bank of Guatemala, José Alfredo Blanco, said that his country plans to name its “future CBDC: iQuetzal, the same as its fiat currency.” Although he stressed that there is a group of people working on the project since the beginning of the year, “they will not rush in its development.”

For its part, the Bahamas plans to approve its Sand Dollar in a few months, while Jamaica is already experimenting “with its own digital currency.”

At the global level, the latest development of a digital currency is being carried out by Nigeria, which plans to launch its eNaira on October 1st. This African country has experienced an acute crisis that forced the inhabitants to take refuge in “decentralized cryptocurrencies” to protect their resources. With the launch of this currency, the authorities are trying to incorporate citizens “into the national system with a digital alternative.”

Nigeria continues with its process of adopting cryptocurrencies, despite the measures that the local government has applied against these transactions.

As recorded on various bitcoin P2P trading platforms, the second strongest week on exchanges was recorded during July.

The data presented by Google Trends highlights that the African country ranks first in the search for the word bitcoin, which provides an idea of the interest of citizens in the subject.

The growing adoption of bitcoin in Nigeria has helped Sub-Saharan Africa become the leading region in P2P volume, with a weekly volume of 18.8 million dollars, surpassing 18 million in North America this last week.

Despite the measures that the country is applying, it has been assured that it is exploring the development of a digital currency created by a central bank (CBDC). The first tests are expected to be carried out in October this year.
