The European Commission’s recent proposal regarding cookie management focuses on certain automatic settings, such as storing personalized consent in browser settings.

Within the framework of regulations to protect user privacy, the European Union has a set of tools, such as the Cookie Law, which obliges websites to obtain the user’s explicit consent for the use of these files. This law is, in turn, framed within the 2009 ePrivacy Directive and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which entered into force in 2018.

In a statement sent to the European Commission, composed of members of industry and civil society, proposals regarding cookies include the idea that users should only have to configure their preferences once.

In other words, that more exceptions be applied, “so that consent banners only appear on certain websites and in specific situations, where user information may be used for purposes other than the website’s functionality.”

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, confirmed through his personal profile on Facebook the official implementation of these functions, which will soon be available to all users. “We will continue to create new ways to protect your messages and keep them as private and confidential as face-to-face conversations”.

Also this month, users will have the opportunity to choose who can see when they are “online.” To keep your online presence private, the company introduced the ability to select who can and cannot see when you’re online and using the app.
