The Central Bank of Venezuela announced the entry into circulation of two new banknotes, of 200 and 500 bolivars respectively, to join those that already make up the current monetary cone in the country.

In a press release, the BCV announced that these “new monetary species have on their front the image of the Trilogy of the Liberator Simón Bolívar and, on the reverse, the image commemorating the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo.”

As is known, in Venezuela the economy is unofficially dollarized. The national currency is the bolivar and coexists with the US dollar, which leads the majority of transactions in all types of businesses and services.

The two new bills, 200 and 500, join the 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 bolivars of the monetary cone, which Venezuelans mostly use them to pay for services such as public transportation and minor purchases in bakeries and kiosks.
