Nepal, a country located in South Asia, is blocking websites and applications related to the world of cryptocurrencies, in order to ratify its ban on the use of Bitcoin.

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) issued a notice this week warning the population that engaging in cryptocurrency-related activities is considered illegal in the country.

On the other hand, the agency indicated that there was an increase in transactions with digital assets in the country, describing them as “illegal and criminal.” In addition, it said that those who engage in these activities could face legal consequences.

The notice follows an earlier nationwide blocking measure for cryptocurrency-related websites. According to that outlet, the NTA ordered internet service providers (ISPs) in March to shut down all cryptocurrency trading websites and apps.

Nepal thus ranks within the list of countries that have banned cryptocurrencies. Its neighbor, China, imposed one of the biggest bans on the sector last year; and other nations such as Tunisia, Egypt, and Iraq have also restricted the use of digital assets.
