The Nearby Share application is preparing to introduce a new format for sharing files, which can be sent to other devices by scanning a QR code with the destination smartphone.

Nearby Share is a way of sending files that only requires that both the mobile from which it is sent and the one that receives it be close, since it transfers this content using wireless technology (Bluetooth, WiFi, UWB or WebRTC).

Google is now working on a new format for sharing files via QR code, so that it will not be necessary to search for other terminals using this technology when sending videos or photos.

This has been verified by the Android Authority, which has indicated that when using Nearby Share the option ‘Use a QR code to share’ will appear below the search window for nearby devices.

Then, it must be scanned with the device on which it is expected to receive this content through applications such as Google Lens. Once recognized, the transfer will start. This portal has warned, however, that this feature is not yet available.
