Although the report does not show the percentage of votes obtained by Bukele or if there was another candidate, the truth is that the current president must register his candidacy with the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) before November 19, 2026.

This would be the third term for Bukele, currently 44 years old, amid stories for and against his internal policies on security and finance. Despite the situation, Bukele maintains a high percentage of popularity thanks to the reduction in violence and control of armed gangs.

Bukele is a figure who has proposed and implemented strict measures against criminal gangs, successfully strengthening internal security.

Furthermore, his advocacy for the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, adopted in 2021 as legal tender, has been crucial to the country’s economic progress. Currently, “the government is maintaining the purchase of one unit per day, which raises national reserves above 7,600 BTC.”

Cryptocurrencies are used as a sovereign digital reserve. This, coupled with the firm stance against violence, keeps Nayib Bukele at the height of global popularity.

The Satoshi Army exhibit “was presented by Satoshigallery at the El Salvador Art Museum, also known as the Marte Museum, with an arrangement reminiscent of China’s historic Terracotta Army.”

The statues in the exhibition are the work of artist Valentina Picozzi. They are made of transparent metal and measure approximately 45 x 30 x 40 cm. This creates “a visual effect of disappearance that directly alludes to Nakamoto’s anonymity.”

The proposal doesn’t focus solely on aesthetics, but rather seeks to convey a collective message about the importance of Bitcoin and virtual assets in general.

Satoshi Nakamoto, beyond the crypto market

Satoshigallery posted on X social media: “The work explores the tension between individual creation and collective movement. Satoshi Nakamoto built Bitcoin in solitude. But millions of people built the ecosystem that gave it meaning. Anonymity doesn’t seem to be a mystery to be solved; it could be an invitation to explore our collective identity.”

The Central American nation, governed by Nayib Bukele, is projected to have achieved this strong economic growth thanks to accelerated GDP growth driven by a boom in domestic and foreign investment.

El Salvador, International Monetary Fund, Nayib Bukele, is said to have experienced this strong economic growth thanks to accelerating GDP growth fueled by a boom in domestic and foreign investment. President Bukele “had managed to transform this economy into one of the safest places in the Americas. Now, after several years of mediocre economic growth, given the country’s level of development (middle-income economies typically grow at high rates), activity is beginning to take off with a force that has surprised even the International Monetary Fund (IMF).”

The organization has expressed surprise at this growth, noting: “The economy is expanding at a faster pace than anticipated, thanks to increased confidence, record remittances, and robust investment.”

In this regard, it is important to highlight the impact of the investment that is expanding rapidly thanks to the stability prevailing in the country, “the legal and civil security that the country has achieved in recent years.”

This is how the president referred this Sunday, August 3, to the “express procedure, the Congress, dominated by the ruling party,” through which last Thursday a constitutional reform was approved that allows indefinite reelection, extends the term from five to six years, and eliminates the second round of elections.”

Bukele faced criticism regarding the reforms, which quickly flooded social media. Organizations such as “Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch (HRW), and the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) considered the decision a death blow to democracy and a manipulation of the Constitution to favor Bukele’s ambitions for power.”

The Salvadoran president, for his part, steers clear of comments that define him as a dictator. He currently enjoys great popularity for his fight against gangs, which has reduced violence in the country to historic lows.

As is known, approximately four years ago, El Salvador adopted the main cryptocurrency on the market as its official currency. However, with the agreement for the loan that the IMF will grant, the country will resume the use of the US dollar as its official currency.

In this sense, the government will have to relax its policy in favor of BTC, which will not be required as a form of payment to the private sector, for example, and the participation of the private sector in activities related to Bitcoin will be limited.

However, Bukele’s advisors on cryptocurrencies indicate that expansion plans with Bitcoin will be maintained, since it is a key strategy for the development of El Salvador

Currently, it reports profits of $31 million amid criticism.

The exact date when El Salvador became the first country in the world to adopt BTC as legal tender was September 7, 2021.

With the measure, President Nayib Bukele launched a campaign to “promote financial inclusion, facilitate more efficient remittance payments and attract financial innovation.”

It was a historic step and launched the country as a global reference in the use of digital assets, according to Alex Momot, founder and CEO of the cryptocurrency trading platform Peanut Trade. Momot told Cointelegraph: “El Salvador’s experiment with Bitcoin can be considered a success. The country acted as a pioneer, taking risks and trying something radically new. While it is too early to declare whether all aspects of the reform were successful, it is clear that El Salvador has reaped some benefits.”

Since 2021, El Salvador has been “dollar-cost averaging into Bitcoin,” acquiring 1 BTC daily. “The country’s portfolio currently has over $31 million in profits, according to the Nayib Bukele Portfolio Tracker website.”

The profits now reported by the Central American nation reinforce Bukele’s position, adding “another layer of validation to his bold experiment with cryptocurrencies.”

Legal tender cryptocurrencies in the Central American nation join tourism and private investment as a driver of local development, according to Douglas Rodriguez, president of the BCR.

In June, the official had already spoken about Salvadoran economic growth, placing it at 2.6 % during the first quarter of 2024. The main drivers were “public and private investment, tourism and demand for the export of goods.”

Bitcoin has undoubtedly been a significant factor in attracting investment and promoting tourism.

THE president of the BCR has also referred to “the importance of the citizen security policies implemented by the government of President Nayib Bukele.” In his opinion, a favorable environment has been created for private investment and tourism.

Bukele’s measures have also had a positive impact on the inflation rate, “which is expected to close the year between 1.0 % and 1.5 %.”

This is a new step by the president, a cryptocurrency enthusiast, in an attempt to “deepen the adoption of the main digital currency from the financial products and services sector.”

According to the country’s ambassador to the United States, Mireya Mayorga, the goal is to offer investors tools that promote diversified financing as well as the reduction of restrictions, compared to the dynamics of traditional banks.

This proposal from Bukele is aligned with the national economic strategy, “which seeks to reach more global investors, as well as promote economic growth with the support of the main digital currency.”

The information available about BIPs is that they would have a more flexible operation with respect to traditional banking, to attract more investors. “In addition, they will eliminate restrictions on loans and credits to encourage more dynamic practices, which allow risk taking beyond 25 % of the asset pool.”

The minimum capital stipulated for its constitution will be USD 50 million. Likewise, they must have at least two shareholders who may be foreigners.

President Bukele’s proposal is under evaluation by the Technology, Tourism and Investment Commission of the country’s Assembly, pending consultations, reviews and corresponding debates by parliamentarians.
