He indicated that the information is endorsed by the general manager of the Venezuelan Coffee Company (EVC), Williams Amaro, who emphasized that the data is official.

He also affirmed that “coffee has become a flagship product of Venezuelan public policy to boost economic growth, an advance that – he noted – has been validated by international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).”

Martínez pointed out that coffee exports from the country increased by 500% last year and indicated that an “aggressive planting policy” will be implemented; “coffee is a powerful tool within the economy.”

Regarding supply, he emphasized that there are between 10 and 15 commercial coffee brands available on supermarket shelves for consumers to choose from. He added that Piro Café is expected to begin marketing its product to Turkey in a couple of weeks, asserting that they already have the certificate of origin to export to Barbados as well.

Of this percentage of national production, 35 % is destined for industrial consumption and 65 % is placed on shelves for sale to consumers, with an estimated consumption per person of between 20 and 25 kilos per year.

In a radio interview, Álvarez discussed the milling of the recent harvest, reiterating that it is on track with what had been predicted; that is, around 4,500,000 tons.

He added that they estimate milling for the next harvest will begin in the last half of November and emphasized that if national production growth levels continue, the country could achieve self-sufficiency and exports in five years.
