The development of a new generation of super computers is Japan’s currently ambitious project, hand in hand with the National Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (AIST).

As recently learned, the government of the Asian country seeks to provide the new supercomputer with a “capacity greater than that of Fugaku, currently the second most powerful supercomputer in the world and also located in Japan.”

From the AIST they have indicated to the local media that with the new device, which they hope to launch in 2024, the country will be located “among the most powerful in the world.”

The Japanese authorities in the area point out that the new super computer will be available through the cloud for local companies in the field of generative AI.

“The Japanese Executive aspires with this initiative to support the development of artificial intelligence at the domestic level, a sector that is led globally by firms such as the American OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, or Google.”

The financing of the project is in charge of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Transport and Industry, which will make an investment of 32,000 million yen (226 million dollars) for the development of this ambitious initiative.

Among the interests behind this innovative work is “economic security, and in particular the aspiration that the machine can process large amounts of highly sensitive or confidential data for national security or for strategic industrial sectors, instead of depending on foreign firms for it.”
