Donald Trump continues to strengthen surveillance mechanisms for migrants without legal status. This time, the measures apply to remittance shipments to Latin American countries.

Authorities are intensifying identity verification controls, which are now stricter, and establishing the obligation to report any suspicious transaction exceeding $2,000.

Those involved hope that the controls will not unduly delay sending money to their families, as it is a crucial source of support for their survival in the destination countries.

During 2025, these remittances increased substantially, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador among the main recipient countries.
