The International Monetary Fund predicts that global economic growth could reach 3.3 % this year. In the case of Latin America and the Caribbean, it would be 2.5 %.

The forecasts of the international organization are moderate, since it takes into account aspects that directly affect the economic recovery of peoples, such as armed conflicts, inflation or political instability, considered persistent risks.

In this sense, the IMF mentions the United States, China, Germany, France, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina among the main world economies.

According to the IMF, the US economy “is doing very well, with a solid labor market and private demand that remains robust.”

In the case of China, it is facing an increase in trade tensions. Germany, for its part, ended 2024 with its second consecutive year of recession. And France is experiencing an internal political crisis that is slowing its growth.

Regarding the situation in LA and the Caribbean, the IMF places Brazil’s growth at 2.2 %, Mexico at +1.4 % and Argentina at 5 %. “Overall, the economy of Latin America and the Caribbean will grow 2.5 % this year and 2.7 % in 2026, the same as forecast in October,” the organization indicates.
