The objective of the currency, known as Digital Jamaica or Jam-Dex, is “to make life easier for business owners and consumers,” said the governor, who also noted that “Jamaica’s economy is based primarily on cash, and a digital Jamaican dollar offers a safer and more convenient alternative.”

As will be recalled, the financial institution began the pilot test in 2021 with the slogan “no cash, no problem”, granting the equivalent of 16 dollars to the first citizens who participated in the test.

According to Byles, the use of digital currency will save money and the economy will be more efficient because the state currently spends more than “7 million US dollars” annually on the replacement of banknotes.

Jamaica digital currency on the market

The Jam-Dex currency will be for domestic use only and will operate under a hybrid model. It will be issued by the central bank to commercial banks and other deposit-taking institutions, which will be responsible for distributing it to the retail market.

The hybrid operating structure is similar to that recommended by the Federal Reserve, which maintains that central banks are responsible for “minting, issuing and redeeming the digital currency but are not involved in administration.”

The authorities have great expectations for Jamaicans to use the digital currency, as it is an accessible and free mechanism through an application that all Jamaicans will be able to install on their mobile phones.

Governor Byles is confident that people will be more friends with the banking network, which will increase the number of banked inhabitants in the country.

The average number of products purchased was four items per completed cart.

This was revealed by a study carried out by Tiendanibe, which also indicates that the five main products demanded in the first three months of the year correspond to the following categories:

Clothing: masks, sweaters and shoes 33 %

Food and drinks: vegetables, fish and soft drinks 13 %

Health and beauty: personal care products and makeup 11 %

Bookstore, art and education: school supplies 10 %

Decoration and home: organizers and linen with 9 %

The areas of health and beauty and Bookstore, art and education reported an increase of 3 and 4 points respectively of growth compared to the same period of last year.

Credit cards, payment system in online commerce

The study carried out by Tiendanube in Argentina also refers to the payment system used by customers during this first quarter of the year. The report reveals that “52 % of buyers used credit cards to pay for their purchases this quarter, an indicator that grew 4 points compared to last year.”

For its part, the use of debit cards reported a reduction equivalent to half in reference to the first three months of 2021, with just 5 % of the total, while bank transfers were used in 43 % of cases.

Regarding the devices used to execute the purchase during this quarter, it can be seen that mobile devices registered 66 %, rising 7 points compared to 2021, while computers registered 34 %.

Personalized home delivery remains the best option to pick up purchased products, while only 37 % of buyers chose a face-to-face point of sale.

The apps archive is a new feature that frees up space without removing the ‘app’ entirely. Instead, parts of the app are removed and remain on the device until the user needs it and updates it to the latest version.

The technology company promises to free up to 60 percent of the space they occupy on the mobile with this function still in development, as stated in a statement. In its roadmap, Google plans to bring it to consumers “later” this year, but will make it available to developers with the release of Bundletool 1.10.

Google sees advantages in this new approach for both users and developers. “Instead of uninstalling an app, users could ‘archive’ it, temporarily free up space, and quickly and easily reactivate the app. Developers can benefit from fewer uninstalls and substantially less friction to get back to their favorite apps.”

The goal of “New to you” is to provide visibility to lesser known creators. YouTube notes “that the feature goes beyond the typical content recommendations you receive in your feed and tries to expose you to new content and creators that you haven’t explored.”

The YouTube New to You tab comes to enhance the user experience and the reach of the creators, improving the user experience in getting more accurate recommendations for unknown channels for users. While for creators it is an opportunity to position themselves and reach new users that will allow them to increase their audience.

For all content creators for specific segments, it is very likely that from now on they will begin to appear in the new “New to You” tab of YouTube.

The South Korean company, a leader in the world smartphones market, will launch its new models on August 27 to a selected segment of some countries such as the US, Europe and Korea, and could be extended to some Latin American countries in September.

The attributes of the Z Fold3 5G model highlights the concentration and hallmark of capabilities for multitasking, with enhanced performance and a 7.6-inch borderless Infinity Flex display, It also contains a first S Pen holder in a folding device.

Additionally, the model includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with 12 GB of RAM / 256 or 512 GB of storage, 10 MP exterior front camera and a 4 MP interior front camera under the screen, while the main camera has 12 MP, more telephoto lens and a 4400mAh battery.

The Z Flip3, 5G was transformed in terms of its design and emerges as “the most compact alternative for greater comfort”, without abandoning its functional details provided by the new cameras and screens.

Another novelty of this new update is that both models are designed and equipped with IPX8 water resistance and are made of very resistant aluminum and protection against accidental drops and scratches.

Park Sung-soon, an analyst at Cape Investment & Securities, noted: “There is definitely a demand for larger screens as people consume more digital content and folding is the only way that makes large screens very portable.”

The information was provided by the company, through a statement, where it explained that some Android phones will be very inefficient with the new functions that will be available in the operating system as of September 27.

Devices with version 2.3.7 were launched on the market in September 2011. They have been operating for 10 years, so they are considered by the company too old for the processing of some services.

Zak Pollack, a member of the Google support team, explained: “If you log into your device after September 27, you may get username or password errors when you try to use Google products and services such as Gmail, YouTube and Maps.”

Some reports indicate that currently only 0.2 % of active Android devices are versions lower than 4.0. However, when comparing the number of mobiles that use Google software, for April of this year, it is concluded that “it exceeds three billion devices in the world, which represents 72.9 % of the total number of devices,” according to figures from Statcounter.

This was demonstrated by the national survey on the use of cash in 2020, carried out by the Bank of Spain to the general population, hoteliers and small merchants.

The results of the survey allow us to conclude that the habit of paying with cash has decreased since the confinement period due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, which has stimulated the use of other means of payment and the hygienic measures derived from the sanitary alert.

The study notes that 2.5 % of the population admitted that they had stopped using cash for hygiene reasons. 69.1 % of citizens and 61.3 % of commercial establishments stated that they will continue to use the electronic card and payments through mobile phones in the future.

The trend of using debit cards has generated that every day Spaniards have less cash availability in their pockets. More than 70 % of the respondents admitted not having more than five coins in their wallets, which is equivalent to approximately 5 euros.

A similar situation occurs with high-denomination banknotes. 89.4 % of those surveyed stated that they had not had a 200 or 500 euro banknote in their hands during the last year, while 56.6 % of merchants rejected payment with banknotes over 100 euros.

The company reported, through a statement, that during this week they will begin to invite their “selected clients to start earning up to 4 % in cryptocurrency rewards.”

In addition, it pointed out that all selected customers who have approved the debit card in the US can start using it immediately through the Aplee Pay applications, even if they do not have the card in physical form yet.

The configuration of the card can be done by adding your card to the Google Pay application for all Google users, while from Aplee Pay they can add it from the Apple Wallet application or from the Coinbase application

Rewards

Among the benefits of using the Coinbase Visa card, prizes in Bitcoin stand out. US users will receive the return as a reward of 1 % in bitcoin for each purchase, 0.4 % in the cryptocurrency Stellar Lumens (XLM) that will serve to compensate the 2.75 % fee charged by the company for each transactions made with the cryptographic debit card.

Although the prize is less than the rate established as commission for the use of the card, the company established an important exception: “Any transaction they carry out using the stablecoin USDC does not include a fee”. Thus, all customers who make purchases in USDC earn 1 % in bitcoin.

The mix of the rewards service and the usability of the applications could become a major attraction to adopt the cancellation with digital currencies in the United States

The new rate represents an extension of the Mobile offer for 2019, which offers the subscription to all the content of the online streaming service for 199 rupees (about 2.29 euros at the current exchange rate) in an SD image quality (420p) and viewable on a single mobile or tablet.

Now, according to information from XDA Developers, India will be able to contract Mobile +, a plan that has the same services as Mobile, but adds playback on a computer and in HD quality (1080p) for 299 rupees (3.45 euros).

The company plans to wait and see “if members like this new election,” a spokesperson told The Economic Times, and will only extend Mobile + to other countries if the service is successful.
