The launch of the new Xiaomi 15 Ultra has been delayed until next year. Recently leaked information indicates that the company wants to offer a higher-quality battery to users.

Originally, it was learned that “the Xiaomi 15 Ultra would have a battery of between 5,450 and 5,800 mAh, but Xiaomi wanted to implement a 6,000 mAh battery, since it knows that is what its rivals will do.”

In any case, the reason for the delay in the launch is that Xiaomi wants “a higher-capacity battery” and is studying a redesign. On the other hand, “it wants the telephoto lens to be as tight as possible to offer a photographic experience never seen before.”

For now, in terms of equipment and appearance details, it will have a “6.7-inch LTPO OLED display, 120 Hz refresh rate, micro-curved edges and a fingerprint sensor under the panel.” The finish will be leather, fiberglass or ceramic; it will incorporate the new Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, as well as different RAM configurations, and which would start at 12 GB.

As smartphones are increasingly required for all daily activities, cybercriminals are finding new methods to deceive their victims, which are becoming more sophisticated and complex over time.

One of them is called SIM ‘swapping’, a fraud through which cybercriminals try to fraudulently duplicate the SIM card of a user’s device, as mentioned by the Internet Security Office (OSI).

First, the attacker impersonates your identity to get a duplicate of your card. To do this, they contact the telephone operator of the card by phone and provide the victim’s personal information, such as their name and ID number.

Cybercriminals may have collected this data through other social engineering attacks (such as SMS fraud, ‘phishing’ or identity theft from the companies themselves), as well as by digging through your social networks.

Another way of accessing sensitive information of victims is through downloading fraudulent applications on their devices, or after connecting to free or fake Wi-Fi networks.

Once all the data has been collected and the call has been made to the company’s operator, the fraudsters can request a duplicate SIM card. In this way, a new card is created, and the one held by the legal user is invalidated.

Subsequently, the victim is left without telephone service, so that the mobile device will not be able to identify the SIM card, the coverage will not be reflected, nor will it allow the receipt or sending of SMS.

Cybercriminals, on the other hand, will be able to access your personal information and take control of your applications, impersonating your identity on social networks, email accounts or digital banking.

In this way, you can carry out bank transactions as you please since you also control the notifications that these services usually offer to confirm the sending and receipt of money transfers, among other actions.

How to avoid being victim of swapping

Because it is a very common scam and, at the same time, complex to stop, OSI recommends taking a series of measures to avoid being victims of this increasingly widespread fraud.

The first of these is to establish contact with the telephone company in the event of having lost coverage for no apparent reason, such as portability to another operator. In addition, it is convenient to establish two-step authentication, as an additional measure.

To do this, applications intended for your security protection, such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator, can be used and downloaded as alternative two-factor methods.

Likewise, it is advisable to update the account recovery options, in case the cybercriminals have managed to access other personal accounts to collect the necessary information to proceed with the ‘swapping’.

Special attention should also be paid to the information that is provided through social networks or public channels, as well as the Privacy Settings options of these platforms.

Finally, it is recommended to exclusively download applications from official stores such as Google Play or the Apple Store, as well as update the access credentials periodically.

Google is currently working on a native Bluetooth tracker detection format for devices with the Android operating system, which would incorporate the features of the Tracker Detecter application developed by Apple.

Apple launched Tracker Detect for Android devices at the end of 2021. The application that helps users of these mobiles find their own AirTag locators which, until then, could only be detected using iOS mobiles or discover if someone is watching them.

As explained by the iPhone manufacturer, on the Google Play page it is indicated that this service is capable of searching for item trackers separated from their owners and compatible with Apple’s Find My network.

Now, as 9to5Google has warned in an APK build of a Google app, a set of lines of code have been found which suggest the company intends to implement a similar feature.

Google Play works on new services

Google started working on Google Play services last March. In the latest version of this platform (22.12.13) there are two lines of code that could be related to its native tracker, ‘Unknown Device Alerts’ and ‘Unknown Tag Notification’ for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology.

These lines are followed by others in which there are three types of references: ‘Finder tag’, ‘Tile tag’ and ‘ATag’. The latter could refer to Apple tracking devices or AirTags.

The detection of Bluetooth trackers in Android is in an early stage of development and it is unknown how it will work. Tracker Detect’s solution, for example, requires users to manually initiate a search for nearby trackers, while the native iPhone solution works automatically in the background.

In addition, the iOS operating system allows precise location using ultra-wide band (UWB), a sensor that some Android mobile phones already integrate.

Since the end of 2020, Samsung Electronics sources had advanced to the local South Korean press that Samsung planned to cancel the Galaxy Note family, since one of its distinct elements, the S Pen stylus, would make its arrival to the other family of the brand’s flagship, Galaxy S21, launched in January.

Koh, who participated in a shareholders event at the Suwon Convention Center, in South Korea, now confirmed that the tech giant will not launch new Galaxy Note this year 2021. Samsung used to launch this family in late summer.

However, the South Korean executive ruled out that this range be canceled, and expects new phones of this type to be launched next year 2022.
