A new generation of mixed reality glasses appears to be the project Meta Platforms owner Mark Zuckerberg is currently working on.

In a recent video, he gives details about manufacturing a new generation of mixed reality glasses, which for now has been baptized with the code name “Puffin.”

The launch date, although we would have to wait for confirmation, would be 2027, according to internal sources cited on August 27 by The Information.

At the moment, it is known that the Puffin glasses will be smaller than Meta’s current Quest headphones. They will not need controllers to operate, as “users will be able to control the device with hand gestures and eye movements, just like the Apple Vision Pro, a rival mixed reality headset launched in February this year.”

To understand a little about what the project is about, it is worth mentioning that mixed reality headsets “combine the real world and virtual reality, allowing users to interact with digital and real-world objects while wearing the devices.”

Just two months ago, Zuckerberg mentioned the new project of the company he runs, and said it was an innovative-mixed reality product more similar to “a pair of smart glasses with holographic screens and integrated cameras, microphones and speakers.”

Among the benefits of the new product, the CEO of Meta highlighted that they would allow “real-time communications without interruptions, informational overlays and a head-up display similar to what would be found in a video game or on the equipment of a military operator.”
