<p style="text-align: justify;">This was announced this week by the <strong>President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen,</strong> who indicated that the <strong>EU Kids Act</strong> seeks to <strong>protect minors from inappropriate or sensitive content</strong> by establishing different levels of prevention.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In this regard, the official told Parliament that<strong> &#8220;from age 15 to 18,&#8221; she added, &#8220;safe design will be mandatory for platforms.&#8221;</strong></p>
<figure id="attachment_124333" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-124333" style="width: 1100px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img decoding="async" class="wp-image-124333 size-full" src="https://bitfinance.news/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/julio-lopez-tj7z3GAcVC0-unsplash.jpg" alt="(Reference image source: Julio Lopez on Unsplash)" width="1100" height="733" srcset="https://bitfinance.news/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/julio-lopez-tj7z3GAcVC0-unsplash.jpg 1100w, https://bitfinance.news/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/julio-lopez-tj7z3GAcVC0-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://bitfinance.news/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/julio-lopez-tj7z3GAcVC0-unsplash-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://bitfinance.news/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/julio-lopez-tj7z3GAcVC0-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1100px) 100vw, 1100px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-124333" class="wp-caption-text">(Reference image source: Julio Lopez on Unsplash)</figcaption></figure>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The regulation &#8220;will make a <strong>verifiable legal obligation an age limit that platforms are not currently required to check</strong> and that minors can circumvent simply by declaring a false age when registering.&#8221;</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The law arises in response to the <strong>dangers of addictive social media features, where minors are exposed to &#8220;increasingly extreme content.&#8221; </strong>The President of the EC also expressed her <strong>refusal to accept &#8220;the use of girls&#8217; photos to create AI-generated sexualized images.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The <strong>platforms</strong> will be required to demonstrate that they are<strong> safe for children and adolescents,</strong> in the face of <strong>accusations of addiction, and consequences in children &#8220;such as sleep loss, anxiety, self-harm.&#8221;</strong></p>

This is a clear example of the misuse of <strong>artificial intelligence.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">There are increasing reports of <strong>minors being victims of blackmail</strong> and extortion based on the publication of <strong>pornographic images</strong> that are not real; they have been generated using AI.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Dozens of these cases have ended in tragedy. The <strong>FBI has intervened, noting &#8220;a shocking increase in sextortion cases against minors in the United States,</strong> whose victims are typically <strong>youngsters between the ages of 14 and 17</strong>. This has led to an alarming number of suicides.&#8221;</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Thi<strong>s illicit activity</strong> can generate <strong>profits exceeding $36 million annually for the websites</strong> that distribute sexual content, and this <strong>involves the technological</strong> <strong>infrastructure of Google, Amazon, and Cloudflare.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Predators can use known methods ranging from <strong>hacking computers and cell phones to remotely manipulating the cameras on these devices.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Threats have increased not only in the <strong>United States</strong> but also throughout the rest of the world, as is the case in Spain, the <strong>United Kingdom, and Asia,</strong> where the respective <strong>governments</strong> have passed l<strong>aws against this type of crime, with prison sentences </strong>for those involved.</p>
