Venezuela signed a five-year memorandum of understanding with India to strengthen cooperation in the health sector and also facilitate the purchase of medicines, as announced in a statement this Tuesday by the Venezuelan Ministry of Health.

According to Venezuelan Minister of Health Nuramy Gutiérrez, the memorandum of understanding “will allow the signing of other agreements that facilitate the arrival of medicines and other health supplies from India, which are not only of very high quality, but have also been released from patents, therefore the international prices end up being very attractive.”

The official also highlighted that the exchange of technical information on drug regulation between the two nations is planned.

The document was signed by the Venezuelan Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission. In this regard, the Indian Ambassador to Venezuela, Ashkbarbabu Puluyadikumaran, emphasized that this initiative will give the government of Delcy Rodríguez “the possibility of accessing very high-quality medicines at very low cost, which will also strengthen the relationship between both nations in various areas of health.”

Venezuelan health authorities announced that they will require proof of yellow fever vaccination for travelers to the states of Aragua, Lara, Portuguesa, and Barinas, given the upcoming Easter holiday and the 36 confirmed cases in the country.

Those wishing to visit these states will need to carry proof of yellow fever vaccination, obtained at least 10 days prior to travel, as confirmed by Vice President for Health, Isabel Iturria.

On the other hand, they recommend that people visiting these western regions use insect repellent and wear long-sleeved clothing, especially in wooded areas, to reduce the risk of bites.

This measure from the Ministry of Health responds to a “health alert” confirmed by the authorities, who have detected 36 cases of the disease since June 2025. “The outbreak is concentrated mainly in 22 parishes in the aforementioned states, with Barinas being the region with the highest rate of infection.” Recently, the ministry launched a nationwide vaccination campaign to protect the population.

The health authorities of Venezuela launched this Monday, February 10, and until March 28, the national polio vaccination campaign to serve the child population between 1 and 8 years of age.

According to the Ministry of Health, in the case of children between 1 and 5 years of age who have only one dose of the vaccine, or none, the corresponding scheme will be activated to guarantee their protection.

The campaign will be carried out in different health centers in the country and a high percentage of educational centers through the “Health Plan goes to School”.

The ministry urges parents and guardians to take their children to the centers to receive the respective immunization.
