China presented a national green consumption plan on Monday, January 5, focusing on seven specific areas through twenty policy measures detailed by the Ministry of Commerce and eight other government departments.

According to the announcement, the Asian country seeks to “strengthen incentives for green consumption, covering sectors such as agricultural products, household appliances, and accommodation services.”

This plan addresses the need to “expand the adoption of green consumption behaviors and accelerate the transition to low-carbon production and lifestyles,” highlights the official website of the Ministry of Commerce.

According to the government agency, the plan will prioritize improving the quality of services in sectors essential to daily life, “advocating for greater availability of organic agricultural products and wider adoption of energy-efficient appliances,” along with promoting new energy vehicles and strengthening the automotive industry chain, as well as promoting “camping in RVs, drive-in theaters, and road trips.”

Areas such as promoting eco-friendly restaurants, accommodations, and domestic services are also addressed.

The plan will rely on the creation of “new green consumption models, calling for the development of green supply chains and carbon footprint assessments. It also encourages the development of green leasing services, along with wider adoption of shared mobility, spaces, and assets, to promote more efficient resource use.”

The National Superintendency for the Defense of Socioeconomic Rights of Venezuela, together with the Ministry of Commerce, is testing the Price Inspection System application, to verify the cost and quality of products in stores in real time.

According to the official state channel, VTV, it is an application for the mobile phones of Sundde inspectors, which facilitates the daily work that involves verifying that businesses apply the prices established by the government.

“This innovative technological system allows the collection of information in real time on prices, quality controls and compliance with sanitary permits in commercial establishments in the country to combat the scourge of smuggling that affects national production and the country’s economy”, indicates the radio broadcast RadioMundial.

The Minister of National Commerce, Colonel Antonio Morales, has indicated that this software also makes it possible to identify irregularities and discrepancies in the national market, as well as any element of disturbance in the price chain.

Morales stressed that “with this application the Ministry of National Commerce automates the control mechanisms for a more expeditious work of the national prosecutors, accelerating the response time for the supervision of the cost structures in the items and thus energize the new automated model procedures carried out by the Bolivarian Government”.

Chen Deming, Ministry of Commerce of China, rejected on his website the sanctions by the United States Government against 23 Chinese companies for their alleged collaboration with the abuses against Muslim minorities in Xinjiang, defining them as a “serious violation of international trade standards.”

The US sanctions are “an irrational crackdown on Chinese companies” and he urged the United States to “correct its irregularities,” he points out in the statement released by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. In addition, he stressed that the Asian country “will take the necessary measures to protect its rights and legitimate interests.”

As you will recall, last Friday the US Department of Commerce announced the inclusion of Chinese companies in its List of Entities, which includes a set of companies and organizations to which US companies cannot export or transfer goods.

According to the information released by the State Department, 14 of the sanctioned companies are accomplices “in Beijing’s campaign of repression, mass detention and surveillance of Uighurs, Kazakhs and other Muslim minorities in Xinjiang.” Five were included for ties with the Chinese military and four for doing business with companies that had already been sanctioned by the US Government.

The Chinese authorities consider that “the United States abuses export control, ignores the facts and uses so-called ‘human rights’ as an excuse”.

In recent years there have been complaints about the situation of some foreigners and other Muslim minorities, who “are being interned in guarded facilities.” However, Beijing denies that there are human rights violations in the region.
