NASA has postponed the next manned moon landing until mid-2027 due to technical failures in the capsule that will transport astronauts.

“The safety of our astronauts always comes first in our decision-making (…) We will not fly until we are ready,” said the head of the US space agency, Bill Nelson, during a press conference on Thursday, December 5. This postponed landing corresponds to the Artemis 3 mission, which would transport astronauts to the Moon for the first time since the last Apollo mission in 1972.

The probable date to resume the launch will be in mid-2027, when NASA is expected to achieve the goal of “establishing a lasting presence on the Moon and preparing the ground for future missions to Mars.”

Technical problems have been the main reason for the postponements of the Artemis 2 and 3 missions. In this regard, Nelson has stated that they were able to identify the cause on that occasion by recreating the problem on Earth.
