BlackBerry has reached an agreement with Catapult IP Innovations whereby it sells patents that are not essential to its business operations, including those related to its mobile devices.

The Canadian company will keep the patents on the products and services that are currently essential to its operations, but has decided to sell the rest, which correspond to mobile devices, messaging and wireless networks.

The sale agreement was signed with the US company for 600 million dollars, which will be executed through a first cash payment of 450 million dollars and a promissory note of 150 million dollars, in five annual installments of 30 million dollars in cash. from the third anniversary of the closing date.

From BlackBerry they assured in a statement that this acquisition of patents will not affect the users of the company’s products, solutions or services.

This news comes shortly after support for phones running BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier, BlackBerry 10, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 and earlier software ended.
