Sony announced the launch of a recovery program for its Aibo ERS-1000 robot dogs, with which it hopes to give them a second life once their users have discarded them and so that they can be used in medical centers and institutions.

The company introduced these robots in November 2017, when it indicated that they could “form an emotional bond with family members while providing them with love, affection, and the joy of caring for and raising a companion.”

These dogs, which look similar to a spotless Dalmatian puppy, show smooth movements thanks to the integration of a total of 22 axes, have sensors to respond to voice and touch and can express emotions thanks to two OLED lights placed in the eyes.

This robot, which requires the My Aibo application to use, uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to learn from the interactions of its owners and develops “a unique personality over time,” according to what the Japanese manufacturer indicated at the time.

That is why some of the users who purchased these devices at the time will use them as an emotional support device for people with special needs, since they are capable of simulating realistic behaviors.
