Spotify has developed a voice recognition technology to detect a user’s mood, gender, age, or accent in order to offer song suggestions that suit his preferences.

The voice analysis technology is included in a patent granted to Spotify this January, as reported by the BBC. With it, the streaming music platform could recommend songs in a personalized way.

This system would be able to detect factors such as gender, age of the users or accent, as well as their mood (if they are happy, sad, angry or neutral), intonation or rhythm when they speak. It would also take into account social type settings of the user profile, such as being alone, a small group or a party.

“It is common for a streaming media application to include features that offer personalized recommendations to a user,” says the patent seen by BBC News.

But this voice recognition system that the company proposes would prevent users from having to answer multiple questions about their musical preferences.
