The increasingly widespread use of free VPNs around the world has led to a deeper look at cybersecurity measures. In this sense, Google Play Store launched a function to warn the user about the presence of malware in these applications.

The Android virtual store is making progress in protecting its users against some type of malware or suspicious code.

As is known, cybercriminals take advantage of any vulnerability in security barriers to infect digital equipment used daily. As a new advance in this area, Google implemented on January 20 “a verification badge system for VPN applications. It is similar to verified accounts on social networks such as Instagram or X.”

This verification is activated before the user downloads a free VPN app. “Check that it has the verified badge, as that will be the seal that confirms that the application has passed Google’s security tests.”

Additionally, the Google Play Store began to show “warnings on the detail pages of applications that are considered to be of low quality or that present frequent problems, such as constant crashes or failures.”
