On Thursday, July 2, the first international flight arrived at the José Antonio Anzoátegui Airport in Barcelona, ​​Anzoátegui State, after the airport was authorized to handle international connections due to the temporary closure of Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía.

Following the June 24 earthquakes in Venezuela, several regional airports have been designated to facilitate domestic and international air travel.

The goal is to maintain, to the extent possible, the air routes that operated at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía.

The first international flight under these circumstances was a Miami-Barcelona route operated by Laser Airlines, carrying 53 passengers. Regional authorities specified that this route will operate daily, with flights between Barcelona and Miami in both directions via the same airline.

According to authorities, new international routes will be added from this terminal in the coming days, which already had reactivated connections to Panama through Copa Airlines.
