Microsoft has now commented that the new Outlook for Windows has “a modern and simplified design for the PC with Windows 11” and that from 2024 new devices with this operating system will ship with this application installed by default.

With it, other services such as Mail and Calendar are replaced, which will not disappear completely, but can be found through the Microsoft Store, which means that they can be downloaded until the end of 2024.

With this, Microsoft has indicated that on existing computers, users can switch to the new Outlook for Windows from the switch at the top of the interface of these other applications.

The company has pointed out that the new version of Outlook allows streamlining accounts, organizing and sharing events more easily and quickly, unifying accounts and enjoying Microsoft 365 for free on the web “with the click of a button”.

Google has unveiled a new integrated view design for its Gmail email service, making it easier to access other tools. It will be launched from February and will gradually extend until the end of the second quarter, when it will be mandatory for all users.

The new integrated design of Gmail provides unified access from the mail service also to Workspace services such as Meet video calls and Chat messaging, as reported by Google in a statement.

This integrated view means that users don’t have to switch tabs or open a new window in Gmail when they want to join meetings or search for important conversations.

The American company has shared its plans for the launch of the new unified view of Gmail, which will begin on February 8, when users who wish to can start testing the design if they accept a notification that will appear in their emails.

Among its features, it has bubbles for notifications. Entering Google Chat shows a complete list of conversations and Spaces from a single screen. It also lets you see your mail inbox and labels from the main Gmail screen.

This design will continue to be developed in the coming months. Google plans to make it possible to search Chat conversations from the inbox search bar, something that until now required opening Chat.

In April, all users will begin to receive the new design by default in the mail service, although they will be able to return to the previous one through the Gmail settings. But by the end of the second quarter the new integrated view will become the standard Gmail experience and users will no longer be able to go back to the old one. At that time, chats will also be searchable from the inbox bar.

The internet giant recently announced that users who have cell phones with Android 2.3.7 or lower will not be able to log into their Google email account, which means that they will not have access to the YouTube, Google Maps and Play Store applications either,  where most apps are downloaded.

The information was provided by the company, through a statement, where it explained that some Android phones will be very inefficient with the new functions that will be available in the operating system as of September 27.

Devices with version 2.3.7 were launched on the market in September 2011. They have been operating for 10 years, so they are considered by the company too old for the processing of some services.

Zak Pollack, a member of the Google support team, explained: “If you log into your device after September 27, you may get username or password errors when you try to use Google products and services such as Gmail, YouTube and Maps.”

Some reports indicate that currently only 0.2 % of active Android devices are versions lower than 4.0. However, when comparing the number of mobiles that use Google software, for April of this year, it is concluded that “it exceeds three billion devices in the world, which represents 72.9 % of the total number of devices,” according to figures from Statcounter.
