India continues to work on the innovation of its voting system which will be assisted by the blockchain platform and it will allow the population to vote from outside their provinces of origin.

The news became official in The Wire newspaper after the chief election commissioner, Sunil Arora, announced that the research with the popular technology was already a project that had been developed for some time and it is presumed that the tests will be launched in the very near future.

Secure form of verification

According to information provided by the source, the Election Commission of India worked closely with researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras, in order to securely create a mechanism to verify identity and allow the people to vote from remote regions of the country and beyond.

According to the explanation offered by the former Deputy Senior Elections Commissioner, Sandeep Saxena, the voting process will be carried out through personalized electronic ballots generated by the blockchain, once the respective verification of the voter has been carried out.

“Once the system establishes a voter’s identity, a blockchain-enabled personalized electronic ballot will be generated. When the vote is cast, the ballot will be securely encrypted and a blockchain hashtag generated. This hashtag notification will be sent to various stakeholders or the candidates and political parties,” Saxena said.
