Since last week, several Latin American countries were on alert for the approach of a Chinese space rocket that was heading towards Earth.

The Long March 5B was around 30 meters high and a little over 20 tons in weight. Days ago it completed its mission to bring the first module of the Chinese space station, the Tianhe, into orbit. The central stage of the rocket failed to return once it left the station in orbit, so it ended up orbiting the Earth until it reentered the atmosphere.

Since the news was given, different groups of astronomers and amateurs in this sector were monitoring and trying to completely predict the trajectory of this rocket.

The spaceship finally crashed into the Indian Ocean, very close to the Maldives, specifically at the coordinates 2.47 degrees east longitude and 2.65 degrees north latitude.

China’s Manned Space Engineering Office said the “vast majority” of the debris burned when it re-entered the atmosphere. The confirmed re-entry thus ends the days of surveillance by hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Although there has been no damage, many experts and especially from the United States see this act as reckless.
