The product was first launched in 2015, but was discontinued following Apple’s internal policies. Now, it is returning to the market in what has been considered “a shift in its closed policy toward alternative payment systems.”

On the other hand, it was reported that the launch of this feature comes “following growing regulatory pressure in Europe, particularly regarding compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires large technology companies to allow greater flexibility for developers.”

Regarding gaming, thanks to the company ZBD, SaruTobi allows players to make instant, low-cost micropayments using Bitcoin’s Lightning Network.

The system also allows for reverse monetization. That is, “players can earn small fractions of BTC (known as ‘sats’ or ‘satoshis’) by completing certain actions in the game. These sats can be used within the app itself to enhance their experience, thus creating a self-sustaining micro-ecosystem.”

According to André Neves, co-founder and CTO of ZBD, the new feature offered by Apple for iOS could unleash a new way for video games to generate revenue and encourage user interaction.

Though initially resilient due to slow transaction reconciliation, Musk expressed his thoughts in a virtual space with ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood.

“It may be possible to use bitcoin to some extent, but it would be difficult to use it much on Mars,” Musk said, suggesting the need for a network located on the red planet. The idea of a local Lightning Network, proposed by Bitcoin developer Matt Corallo, could be the key to overcoming transaction speed hurdles.

In his vision of building a colony on Mars by 2050, Musk stressed the importance of evolving into a multi-planetary species. Although facing logistical challenges, Musk considers the use of Bitcoin on Mars feasible with the innovative solutions proposed.

“12-22 minutes of light is not a problem with 10-minute blocks,” said Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream, showing optimism about the idea. In addition, data from Glassnode revealed that Bitcoin’s Lightning Network is significantly cheaper than traditional payment methods.

Elon Musk has left open the possibility of incorporating cryptocurrencies into X, planning to turn it into an “app for everything.” Although in August 2023 he refused to launch a cryptocurrency on the platform, there is speculation about the implementation of cryptocurrency payment options in the future.

With technological advances and the evolution of the cryptocurrency industry, the use of Bitcoin on Mars could become a reality, marking a milestone in space exploration led by SpaceX and Elon Musk.

As you may recall, the Lightning Network is an autonomous network that facilitates faster transactions than the traditional bitcoin network. Such “transactions occur outside the main bitcoin blockchain, which reduces the energy and time spent processing transactions, then they are recorded on the main bitcoin blockchain,” meaning customers can send and receive BTC on the go anywhere in the world with minimal fees.”

Elizabeth Stark, the CEO of Lightning Labs, explained that Taro aims to offer developers “the flexibility to move stablecoins from the Bitcoin network to the Lightning Network while maintaining the privacy and security of the Bitcoin network.”

Taro will compete with commercial banking

The new Taro protocol is based on an address format called bech32. The security mechanism “is based on embedded consensus.” All financial movements are confirmed on the bitcoin blockchain before being transferred to the Taro network.

The protocol supports different and multiple types of assets, making it easy for users to perform cross-chain atomic swaps, ruling out the need for centralized exchanges. And all major wallets will be supported.

With this new automation, Taro turns bitcoin and the Lightning Network into competitors of SWIFT and commercial banking, estimating that emerging markets will be favored since access to the global economy and financial tools are limited for this sector.

In this way, the network launches the first change of the cryptocurrency protocol since the “introduction of SegWit in August 2017”.

With this update, the bitcoin network tries to improve its privacy and scripting capabilities, implementing the concept of the Merkelized Abstract Syntax Tree (MAST), according to what was expressed by a developer of the cryptocurrency, Hampus Sioberg, on his dedicated portal Taproot.

According to Hampus Sjoberg, a bitcoin developer, MATS could facilitate the efficiency and privacy of contracts because it would only reveal some aspects of the contract once it is exhausted. He additionally considers that the activation of Taproot demonstrated that the cryptocurrency network can perform updates, a fact that notably favors its prolongation, noting: “I think that is the biggest victory,” he said.

Taproot, improving privacy

Sjoberg explained that with the use of Taproot for the Lightning Network, the payment channels may be indistinguishable in normal transactions: “It is not possible to know if a Taproot transaction is a normal payment or if it belongs to a Lightning channel,” of great importance for the fungibility of virtual currency.

However, the developer highlights that the update marks the end of “Speedy Trial deployments and future updates to the Bitcoin network will require the provision of new methods.” Taproot opens up a world of possibilities, but the first thing it should perform is a “MuSig 2” transaction, sharing tips for your fellow bitcoin developers.

Jack Dorsey, CEO of the social network, had predicted the measure last June stating: “It is only a matter of time” for the company to integrate transactions with Lightning. The developer Alessandro Paluzzi also leaked a photo where you could see the beta version of the product that the company was developing on the integration with Lightning.

These events generated a series of rumors about the negotiations or commercial strategies between bitcoin and Twitter. The news confirmed this Thursday all references. Users of the social network will be able to tip “creators through Square, a CashApp service. They will also be able to connect their Lightning bitcoin wallet or their bitcoin address to take advantage of the functionality.”

New features

On the other hand, Twitter reported in the press conference offered for the media that the company is working with great success to “add non-fungible token (NFT) verification functions to the platform.”

NFT’s authentication function will make it easier for Twitter followers to connect their “cryptocurrency wallets to their accounts to prove ownership of a work of art,” which would transfer legitimacy. Possibly, the function will contains the source explanation too.

Esther Crawford, product manager of the social network, explained: “We are basically interested in making it somehow visually clear that this is an authenticated avatar and then giving you interesting information and insights about where that NFT came from, so there it is where we are today.”

The social network is also working in non-crypto areas, highlighting plans to be able to monitor content more automatically, as well as some options so that followers can control their own experience on the network and a “fund of spaces to give initial push to creators who want to use improved audio features and pursue a long-term monetization strategy on Twitter”.

The information was released through the official networks of the company, where it is specified that the tool will be managed from a web page where the operation of the platform will be offered in greater detail.

So far it is known that Bitfinex Pay will serve as an application or program integrated into the client’s website, in the best widget style. The advantage is that users will be able to process online payments with currencies such as: bitcoin (BTC) via traditional / lightning network , ethereum (ETH) and tether (USDT), which would go to the linked wallet on Bitfinex.

Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of Bitfinex, has communicated in a report published in CityAM that the main objective of the company is to “confront the established giants in the fields of technology and payments, taking advantage of our knowledge on these issues to bring crypto payments to traditional means.”

Ardoino stated that when it comes to payments with cryptocurrencies “there is a generational change in the way of thinking … The next generation of consumers will be in tune with the new possibilities offered by digital payments.”
