This means that citizens of visa-exempt countries will continue to enter the continent without prior authorization until 2026.

It is important to remember that, eventually, “the ETIAS will be mandatory, will cost €7 per application, and will be valid for three years. During this period, multiple stays of up to 90 days in Europe will be permitted.”

This update was expected to take effect this year. However, the European Union expects its implementation by the last quarter of 2026.

ETIAS “will be a mandatory entry requirement for citizens traveling to Europe” from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

To apply for ETIAS, citizens must visit the official European Union website, where they will be asked to fill out forms with information such as their first and last name, passport number, issue and expiration dates, and contact information, including a valid email address. Travel details and information on health and criminal records will also be displayed.

It’s important to know that the ETIAS is valid only for travel to any country in the Schengen Area for tourism, transit, and business purposes. “Given that it authorizes unlimited entry for up to 90 days, it cannot be used for work or long-term studies.”
