The Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom announced that the country signed agreements at the recent BRICS summit in Kazan on the construction of new floating nuclear power plants.

New agreements were signed at the meeting, according to Alexei Likhachev, director of Rosatom, during the launching of the atomic icebreaker Chukotka in St. Petersburg.

The official said that Russia is thoroughly considering the serial construction of floating nuclear power plants “both in the interests of companies on Russian territory, and in the interests of our foreign partners.”

According to Likhachev, the construction of two more such plants is currently underway. He highlighted “the technological modernization in the case of floating power plants that will be installed in tropical areas” and emphasized that these facilities will only be supplied to “friendly countries,” although he did not go into details.
