Inflation for July was 19.9 %, according to the report issued by the Central Bank of Venezuela on August 12. The institution projects a decrease in the indicator, which was accelerated as a consequence of the June 24 earthquakes.

The announcement was made through the BCV’s website and official channels, where it reported on “the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) and its month-on-month variation.”

The inflation variation was due to the two earthquakes that affected the distribution of goods.

The sectors reporting the highest inflation increases were Education (23.9 %), followed by Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (21.6 %) and Health (21.5 %); Clothing and Footwear (20.8 %); Housing Rentals (20.2 %); Household Equipment (20.1 %); and Recreation and Culture (20 %).

Below the average, but with price indices higher than in June, were Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (19.3 %); Miscellaneous Goods and Services (19.8 %); and Communications (18.8 %).
