A sequel to “A Minecraft Movie,” starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, will hit theaters in July 2027, Warner Bros. announced.

Through its social media, the film company indicated that the sequel to “Minecraft,” the third highest-grossing film of this year, is scheduled for release in the United States on July 23, 2027, “with $957 million, surpassed only by China’s ‘Ne Zha 2’ ($1.902 billion) and ‘Lilo & Stitch’ ($1.037 billion), which demonstrates the strong momentum of children’s films.”

As is known, the film adapts the eponymous video game released in 2011, which is the best-selling video game in history with more than 300 million units. “Regarding the sequel, it is only known that Jared Hess will return to direct and co-write the script with Chris Galletta,” according to Variety magazine.

It is important to note that “Minecraft” achieved $301 million in its first week in theaters, catapulting it to the highest opening for a film adaptation of a video game.
