Venezuelan imports have increased since the end of September with the aim of satisfying consumer demand during Christmas. This was recently stated by the president of the Regional Chamber of Cargo, Jonathan Durvelle.

The official recalled that during this time, demand for seasonal inputs increases and reported that a few weeks ago, “seven vessels were operating in Puerto Cabello and two in La Guaira, figures that had not been seen in previous periods. He noted that a steady flow of raw materials is being observed, especially ABA foodstuffs, in addition to imports of corn, sorghum, wheat, and other products.”

He also referred to the arrival of containerized cargo in the country, including white goods and items related to the holiday season, although he warned that “the sector still operates with transport fleets that are more than 40 years outdated and have not been renewed.”

Durvelle highlighted the sector’s efforts to reinvest in order to “face current challenges. Among the priorities, he mentioned the need to adjust freight rates and update freight transport rates.”
