The recent visit to Brazil by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was the setting for the signing of a joint declaration with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, on a possible agreement between Europe and Mercosur.

This Wednesday, Scholz and Lula da Silva signed a declaration giving their support to an agreement that allows facilitating priority aspects of the business sector.

An agreement between Europe and Mercosur could be the door to “Brazil’s accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). According to the employers, carrying out this procedure will have a positive impact on the commercial relationship between the countries”.

On the other hand, the signing of said agreement would help deepen plans signed in 2008 between Brazil and Germany on decarbonization and cybersecurity.

Bilateral initiatives on digitization and industry 4.0 were also included in the discussion agenda during the visit of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Brazil.
