This Monday, the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced the reopening of private vehicular traffic in the borders with Colombia as of January 1st, 2023.

As indicated by Maduro, the transit of private vehicles to and from the two countries will be completely allowed, paralyzed since 2015.

“I can announce that we will be completely opening the entire western border of Venezuela with Colombia for the passage of vehicles, motorcycles, trucks, everything (…) as a New Year’s gift to the people of the border,” the Venezuelan president stressed after a meeting with political, military and police authorities from all over the country.

According to the announcement, they are finalizing the details for this opening of vehicle traffic in the border area to occur, as an additional step to the reestablishment of Colombian-Venezuelan relations last August.

It is opportune to remember the words of the Colombian ambassador in Venezuela, Armando Benedetti on December 5, about the reopening of the Tienditas International Bridge this December 15.
