Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sealed a crucial cooperation and investment agreement for the exploration of critical minerals.

The agreement aligns with New Delhi’s “Critical Minerals Mission,” which exempts the import of 25 essential minerals from tariffs and aims to guarantee the supply of raw materials such as rare earth elements, lithium, and niobium.

During his meeting with Modi in New Delhi, Lula stated: “Increasing investment in cooperation on renewable energy and critical minerals is at the heart of the pioneering agreement we have signed today. Our countries are securing the rightful place for these technologies on the global climate and energy agenda.”

For their part, Indian companies will have access to various mining assets in Brazil and will be able to import raw materials free of charge.

In addition to this agreement, the two nations signed nine other related pacts and memoranda in strategic areas such as digital cooperation and equitable access to medicines.

The Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, had anticipated through a press release posted on her Twitter account, that Venezuela and Colombia established a reciprocal investment protection agreement, which would be signed in due course, to then formulate the required procedures. by both nations.

In the statement released by the Executive Vice President, it was noted that the establishment of this negotiation was advanced and also the revision of the Partial Scope Agreement number 28. “This agreement has no precedents in the bilateral relationship and seeks to generate greater legal security for the reciprocal investments in all the productive sectors of both economies”, outlined the document.

The verification of Partial Agreement No. 28 has not been reviewed since 2012, the date it entered into force. “This agreement regulates the bilateral trade of goods and addresses aspects such as dispute resolution, among others.”

The meeting where the agreement was signed took place at the Miraflores Palace in the city of Caracas. On behalf of Colombia, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, Darío Germán Umaña, was present, who described this fact as a “historical milestone”.

“It is a historical milestone, and what we are doing (…) is an example for Latin America. It is a symbol of integration, of service, of creating (…) complementarity, for development,” emphasized Umaña, in statements broadcast by the State channel.
