According to the platform, Meta, the company owned by Mark Zuckerberg, is working on this new function, which will allow WhatsApp users to send and receive messages from other apps without having to open an account in them.

Without a doubt, the most used text messaging in the world today, seeks to offer a more versatile and integrated service.

As some media outlets have reported, the function to send and receive these messages to other apps was already found in a recent beta version of WhatsApp for iOS.

The measure would seek to comply with the new Digital Markets Law (LMD) of the European Union, which precisely establishes that large technology companies must offer users the possibility of communicating with each other from different applications.

WhatsApp is not the exception to the rule, and must comply with the EU requirements. At the moment, there is no detailed information about the WhatsApp update. What was reported by the WABetaInfo portal last week is that the function was detected through the TestFlight beta program for Apple’s mobile operating system, in WhatsApp version 24.2.10.72.

There has been speculation about the possible release date of the update with the new WhatsApp feature for March of this year.

The announcement was made within the framework of the Facebook Connect event. In the event he also explained that the purpose is “to expand the emporium and set our sights on the metaverse” but social networks that comprise it, such as Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, will keep their names.

According to Zuckerberg, Meta is “a company that creates technology to connect and together we can finally put people at the center of our technology and unlock a vastly larger creator economy.”

Zuckerberg stressed that the Facebook company has evolved a lot and at present the name does not represent everything that the corporation is doing. He expressed that the corporation will continue to be closely linked to the product. However, it aspires to take over as a “metaverse company.”

The formal presentation of the new name was made through a video where they confirmed that they will continue to be a company “that designs technology focused on people.” The CEO clarified that once the Meta name comes into effect, people will not have to use the Facebook social network to be able to join and enjoy the services offered by the corporation.

Change of name but not of mission

The corporation, with its new name, is executing a “fundamental” change but will continue with its mission, focused on “bringing people together with our applications”, which will not change.

The new corporation will be focused in two large sectors: one dedicated to current social networks and the other for future platforms. Hence the need to host a new brand that allows to reflect everything that the company is doing and the future plans to execute, that can identify “who we are.”

During the event, the CEO of the corporation, now called Meta, criticized how technology is being used today, focused primarily on “applications and not on people”, which is significantly impacting the metaverse. “This is not the way we should use technology. The metaverse gives us the opportunity to change that if we do it right,” he pointed out.

For Zuckerberg, there is the possibility of designing more open platforms that allow people to discover and live experiences together, with greater interoperability.

The company’s group of researchers is working on the “Universal Payment Channel (UPC) project that will aim to become” a blockchain interoperability center that connects multiple blockchain networks and allows the transfers of digital assets of different protocols and wallets.”

The payments giant issued a statement stating that the organization began the process of conceptualizing the initiative in 2018, based on the ability to exchange payment information with digital assets regardless of the networks or “underlying blockchain mechanisms.”

The UPC project is invented to “establish dedicated payment channels between different blockchain networks, connecting CBDC networks between countries, as well as connecting CBDC with private stablecoin networks.”

In the statement, the company says that, in the very near future, people will be able to meet somewhere and will be able to cancel the account using each one their own type of money. That is, “using CBDC such as Sweden’s eKrona, or a private stablecoin like USDC.” This will be possible with the UPC.

The UPC solution or “universal adapter” seeks to offer “a network of networks” adding value to the different forms of money movement, regardless of the network where it occurs, or whether it originates in the Visa company network or in another one.

Colombia becomes the first Latin American country to start the pilot test of issuance of stock bonds with the use of blockchain technology, throughout the process of issuance, registration and negotiation, which implies an important leap by the SFC before its Latin American peers .

The information was provided by the institution through a statement, where it also explained: “that the issuance of this real bond does not involve all the traditional infrastructure that uses a centralized deposit of securities, but it will have all the phases of an issuance of securities. traditional bonds.
This test is intended to demonstrate the efficiency of blockchain technology at times where interoperability, immutability and effectiveness are essential in institutions. Therefore, it is expected to verify and verify if the planned times are the most optimal for each and every one of the phases of the process.

Financial entities will participate in the pilot test are: Davivienda banks, the IDB Group and Banco de la República. Davivienda will be responsible for issuing the trial bond, the IDB will be in charge of acting as an investor, while the Banco de la República will be the “observer who will oversee that the process is completed according to the former

The most important challenge of this pilot test is related to the updating of the stock exchange regulations and policies that govern the entire process, because they are directed, for the most part, to an administrative process, preferably written, for which the legal instruments must be developed and adapt to new technology.
