UNESCO, on the occasion of the International Water Day celebrated this March 22, announced the implementation of the International Hydrological Program (IHP).

This program is considered the only intergovernmental program in the United Nations system, which is dedicated to research, education, and capacity building in hydrological matters.

Currently, the program is in its eighth phase (2014-2021), whose main theme is “Water security. Responses to local, regional, and global challenges.” The improvements in the actions of the ISARM Program address groundwater, from the management of internationally shared aquifers. In the Americas it is implemented by the IHP of UNESCO and the Organization of American States (OAS).

The II International Forum in Ecuador had the participation of Peru, with a delegation led by the Vice Minister of Agrarian Policy, Pablo Quijandría, who, together with the host of the event, Alexis Sánchez, Secretary of SENAGUA, signed a specific agreement for the development of the Puyango-Tumbes Binational Project.

The World Report was presented in Ecuador by the Director and Representative, Saadia Sánchez Vegas, as part of the celebration of World Water Day, simultaneously with a global launch in South Africa, a regional launch in Brazil, and national launches in Argentina, Costa Rica. and Uruguay.

“Improving wastewater management is also essential in the transition towards a circular economy and for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, said Sánchez, making special reference to Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
