The International Contact Group will hold a virtual meeting of foreign ministers on March 21, with a view to continuing to make progress to achieve “a peaceful and democratic solution” to the crisis that Venezuela has been going through for years and to facilitate the sending of aid.

The group, which emerged as an initiative to propose common approaches, brings together Spain, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Panama, Portugal, Sweden and Uruguay, as well as the European Union.

Representatives of all these countries have held an online meeting to examine the situation today and discuss, among other issues, the negotiation process open in Mexico between the government of Nicolás Maduro and the main opposition parties.

This dialogue remains stalled after some initial attempts at rapprochement, in a context in which the opposition is now seeking to reconfigure itself to agree on a common candidate in future electoral processes, through primaries that will take place in October of this year.

The group “has reiterated its objective of contributing to a peaceful and democratic solution to the crisis in Venezuela,” according to the EU’s External Action Service, which in a note has confirmed a new virtual meeting, although already between ministers, for inside one month.
